Ellison Wins Steer Wrestling, Women Third and Men Split Fifth at Pearl River

POPLARVILLE, Miss. – JT Ellison captured first place in steer wrestling, posting a 9.9 average, as the West Alabama men's rodeo team split fifth in the Pearl River Community College Rodeo at the Pearl River County Fairgrounds.

Heather McLaughlin split second in breakaway roping to help lead the Tiger women to a third place finish. McLaughlin tied with Blair Bryant of East Mississippi Community College, both putting together a 5.8 in the average.

Missouri Valley won both the men's and women's titles with 980 and 310 points, respectively.

Tennessee-Martin was second on the men's side with 385 points, followed by Southern Arkansas with 360, EMCC with 280. UWA and Northwest Mississippi Community College both had 225 points with Arkansas Rich Mountain (130), Three Rivers (100) and Murray State (45) completing the men's field.

UARM was second in the women's final standings with 290 points, followed by UWA with 175, UTM with 165 and EMCC with 120 to round out the top five. SAU was sixth with 115, followed by NWCC with 110, Missouri Southern State with 80 and Central Methodist with 55.

Cooper Malone was eighth and Ryder Ladner ninth in steer wrestling.
Malone was sixth and Chase Graves seventh in calf roping.
Malone and West Smith of EMCC were seventh in team roping.
Bethany Stallons was 10^th in breakaway roping.
Raven Clagg was eighth and Heather Varner ninth in goat tying.

West Alabama returns to the arena Thursday through Saturday at the Weevil Stampede hosted by Arkansas-Monticello at the Drew County Fairgrounds.
