Box Score 2 Valdosta, Ga.- Valdosta State won two games against West Alabama on Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park Sunday afternoon to sweep the Gulf South Conference series.
UWA drops to 13-18 overall and 9-15 in GSC play while the Blazers improve to 25-3 overall and 19-2 in the conference.
Game 1
Valdosta State scored 10 runs on 12 hits to defeat West Alabama 10-2 Sunday afternoon.
The Blazers had an early home run in the first to put Valdosta up 1-0.
The Tigers tied the game at 1-1 in the second when Grace Self RBI single scored Lexy House.
Valdosta State did not allow the Tigers to score any runs after the second.
The Blazers scored four big runs in the fifth to extend the lead 8-2.
VSU closed the game with two runs in the sixth to defeat the Tigers 10-1.
Self led UWA with one hit and an RBI.
Kacy Noland (6-8) absorbed the loss for the Tigers. Noland pitched 3.2 innings giving up four runs earned runs while striking out one.
Game Two
The Blazers scored another 10 runs in game two to sweep the GSC series against West Alabama, 10-0.
UWAÂ produced five hits. Abby McKee, Peyton Coots, Mary Grace Sheffield, Caleigh Wallace, and Chrissy Tubbs each had one.
Breanna Fortenberry (2-1) took the loss for the Tigers. Fortenberry went three innings giving up five earned runs and striking out one.
The Tigers return to action Friday for a single game against Lee University at UWA Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
