Women Win, Men Third as Regular Season Closes at NWCC

SENATOBIA, Miss. – The University of West Alabama Tiger Wranglers closed out the spring college rodeo season in a big way with the women's team winning first place and the men third at the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rodeo this weekend at the Northwest Farm Multipurpose Arena.

The Tiger women put together a solid performance to score 345 points, outdistancing second-place Missouri Valley with 313.33. East Mississippi Community College was third with 283.33, followed by Tennessee-Martin with 190 and Arkansas-Rich Mountain with 113.33 to round out the top five. Pearl River (Miss.) Community College (110), NWCC (100) and Southern Arkansas (25) completed those teams who scored.

Missouri Valley won the men's side with 840 points, followed by UTM with 540 and UWA at 430. EMCC collected 370 and PRCC scored 370 and 345, respectively, to round out the top five. SAU (245), Three Rivers (120), UARM (80) and Murray State (20) completed the portion of the field that scored points.

"I am proud of the way we competed," UWA head coach Daniel Poole said. "Especially proud of the women for bouncing back from a less than par performance in our last rodeo to win this week. Shows you what they are made of."

The first-place finish was the second for the Tiger Wrangler women, who also put together a first-place finish at the Pearl River Rodeo in October.

Following are some individual highlights from Tiger Wranglers:

Jade Ellick split first in goat tying and Raven Clegg seventh in the same event.
Ryder Ladner won calf roping and split first in steer wrestling.
Blayne Saine was third in calf roping and Wyatt McCann took eighth.
Jacob and Matt Watt earned second in team roping, JT Ellison and Cody Stubbs seventh.
Heather McLaughlin and Aldyn Ashton were ninth and 10^th, respectively in goat tying.
McLaughlin was fifth in breakaway roping and Aldyn Ashton earned 10^th.

The College National Finals Rodeo is set for June in Casper, Wyoming.
