Softball Series at Valdosta State Time Changes

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Gulf South Conference softball series between West Alabama and Valdosta State dates remain the same but the times have been shifted due to potential inclement weather early this weekend.

The three-game series begins with a doubleheader Saturday now starting at 10 a.m. at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park in Valdosta, followed by a Sunday single game at noon.

UWA comes into the series with a 13-15 overall record, 9-12 in GSC play. 

Freshman Peyton Coots leads West Alabama hitters with a .379 batting average, followed by sophomore Kacy Nolandhitting .365.

The Tigers top pitchers are Noland, Hannah Mynard, and Breanna Fortenberry. Noland (6-7) has pitched a total of 67.1 innings with a 3.74 earned runs average and has 36 strikeouts. Hannah Mynard (1-2) has pitched 30.1 innings with a 5.08 ERA, while striking out 15. Fortenberry (2-0) has pitched a total of 22.2 innings with a 3.09 ERA, while striking out three. 

Valdosta State is on a 11-game winning streak and is ranked third in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) with a 22-3 overall record, 16-2 in the conference.

Nicole Pennington leads the VSU hitters with a .471 batting average, followed by Aniston Gano hitting .400.

The Blazers top pitcher is Samantha Richards. She has pitched a total of 97.2 innings with a 1.29 ERA, while striking out 116.

According to vstateblazers.com, in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, there will be limited occupancy for home games at Steel's Diamond at Balzer Park and face coverings will be required at all times for all guests over the age of two.
