Tigers Open Regional Against Familiar Foe

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Alabama women's tennis team will open play in the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's South Regional Championship against a familiar foe.

Seeded second in the regional, the Tigers will open play against third-seeded West Florida at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. The Tigers and Lady Argonauts, both from the Gulf South Conference, will be playing for the third time since April 5.

West Alabama (17-2) won both matches, 4-3, with the first being played at West Florida (15-5) on April 5 on the same court where the regionals are being held and the second in the GSC Championship Tournament Finals April 24 in Montgomery, Alabama.

"We are looking forward to the tournament and are ready for another rematch with UWF, which I am sure will be another battle," West Alabama head coach Jeff Beaman said. "This has been an exceptional year working with this group and we are excited to see what else we can accomplish."

Fourth-seeded Nova Southeastern and fifth-seeded Saint Leo open regional play on Friday at 10 a.m., with the winner of that match advancing to play top-seeded Barry on Saturday at 2 p.m. The two semi-final winners will meet for the region title on Sunday at noon.
