LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama will honor their 14 senior student-athletes this Saturday when the Tigers host Mississippi College at 2 p.m. at Terry Bunn Field at Tiger Stadium in Gulf South Conference action.

UWA will honor Schdarren Archie, TJ Newell, Michael Anderson, De Mays, Demetrius Battle, Owen Harper, Jaden Tuck, Trevonte Carter, Hunter Veal, Gabriel Dunkle, Delvin Salter, Kordell Watts, Jalen Gardner and Terrance Monroe will all be recognized before the game. There will also be ceremony recognitions for the UWA men's basketball team between the first and second quarters and for the UWA women's tennis team between the third and fourth quarters for winning GSC titles last year.
Below is bio information for all 14 senior student-athletes:
UWA Football Seniors
Schdarren Archie, from Brandon, Miss., competed at Brandon High School and at the University of Louisiana before arriving at West Alabama during the 2020 season. Archie saw time right away during the shortened 2020 season playing in two games, collecting six total tackles and forced a fumble. He played in eight games during the 2021 season, with 24 total tackles, 20 solo stops, two interceptions and four passes broken up. So far this season, Archie has played in nine games, posting 27 tackles, 20 solo, two tackles for loss. For his career at UWA, Archie has played in 19 games, coming away with 57 tackles, 40 solo, two interceptions, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
TJ Newell, from Clinton, Miss., competed Clinton High School and at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College before arriving at West Alabama during the 2020 season. He saw time right away during the shortened 2020 season playing in both games, coming away with eight tackles, seven solo, had a tackle for loss and three passes defended. During the 2021 season, Newell posted 23 tackles, 21 solo, in 11 games. So far this season, Newell has played in nine games, coming away with 31 tackles, 25 solo, along with a sack, five passes defended and a forced fumble. For his career, Newell has played in 22 games, accumulating 62 tackles, 53 solo, two tackles for loss, a sack, eight passes defended and a forced fumble.
Michael Anderson, from Chatom, Ala., competed at Washington County High School and spent his entire career at West Alabama. Anderson saw time as a redshirt freshman in 2018 competing in five games, collecting two tackles, both solo. During the 2019 season, he played all 11 games, coming away with 14 tackles, nine solo, 1.5 tackles for loss and forced a fumble. During the shortened 2020 season, he played in two games, posting 14 tackles, 10 solo, had a tackle for loss and a pass defended. Last year in 2021, Anderson played all 11 games, accumulating 55 tackles, 38 solo, along with 2.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass defended. So far this season, Anderson has played in all nine games, leading the team with 81 tackles, 59 solo, 10 tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, three QB hurries and a pass breakup. For his career, Anderson has played in 38 games, collecting 166 tackles, 118 solo tackles, 15 tackles for loss, three sacks, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three passes defended.
De Mays, from Flora, Miss., played at Madison Central High School and at Mississippi Community College before arriving at West Alabama in 2020. During his first season at UWA in the shortened year, he played in both games, collecting two solo tackles, had a pass defended and a fumble recovery. Last season in 2021, Mays, played in all 11 games, posting 23 tackles, 22 solo, had 1.5 tackles for loss, nine passes defended. So far this season, Mays has played in eight games, coming away with 25 tackles, 21 solo, a half-tackle for loss, two interceptions, three passes defended and two QB hurries. For his career at WOU, Mays has played in 21 games, collecting 50 tackles, 45 solo, two tackles for loss, 13 passes defended and three interceptions.
Demetrius Battle, from Birmingham, Ala., played at John Carroll High School and has spent his entire collegiate career at West Alabama. He began his career as a redshirt freshman in 2019 where he played in all 11 games, rushing for 282 yards on 64 carries and tied for the team lead with eight rushing scores. Also caught six passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. During the shortened 2020 season, he played in both games, rushing for 46 yards on six carries. Last year in 2021, Battle led the team carrying the ball 161 times for 934 yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 games. He also caught 16 passes for 96 yards. Battle was named First Team All-GSC following his strong season. So far this season, Battle has rushed for 555 yards on 121 carries and four touchdowns in nine games, leading the team in carries. He has five catches for 60 yards and also added a touchdown pass of 57 yards last week against West Florida. For his career, he has played in 32 games, carrying the ball 352 carries for 1,817 yards and 23 touchdowns. His 1,817 rushing yards ranks 10th on the all-time program list, while his 23 touchdowns ranks eighth on the all-time list. He also has 27 catches for 198 yards and a touchdown.
Owen Harper, from Lumberton, Miss., played at Columbia Academy and competed at Northwest Mississippi Community College before arriving at West Alabama. During his first season at UWA in 2019, Harper played in eight games spending time on special teams as well. He added a tackle and returned one kickoff. During the shortened 2020 season, he played in both games, catching seven passes for 67 yards. This past season in 2021, Harper played in all 11 games, grabbing 12 passes for 112 yards and added a touchdown. So far this season, Harper has played in nine games, posting 13 catches for 99 yards. For his career at UWA, Harper has played in 30 games, catching 32 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown.
Jaden Tuck, from Alexander City, Ala., played at Benjamin Russell High School and has been at West Alabama for his entire collegiate career. Following a redshirt season in 2018, Tuck began his time on the field at UWA in 2019 seeing time in one game on special teams. In the shortened 2020 season, he started both of the games that year at linebacker. Last year in 2021, Tuck played in seven games both on defense and special teams. This season, Tuck has played in six games, posting five tackles, three solo, adding a pair of tackles against Tuskegee. For his career, he has played in 16 games playing both on defense and special teams for the Tigers.
Trevonte Carter, from Gadsden, Ala., and played at Gadsden City, has spent his entire collegiate career at West Alabama. Carter saw lots of time on the field during the 2019 season when he played in eight games, collecting 10 tackles, with six solo, along with three tackles for loss. He played in both of the 2020 shortened season games, adding seven tackles, with four being solo. Last year in 2021, Carter, played in 10 games, collecting 36 tackles, with 33 being solo. He also added a pair of sacks. So far this season, Carter has played in nine games, accumulating 27 tackles, 16 solo, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and three QB hurries. For his career, Carter has played in 29 games, tallying 80 tackles, 59 solo, 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.
Hunter Veal, from Phil Campbell, Ala., played at Phillips High School and at West Shoals Community College before arriving at West Alabama. Veal played his first season with the Tigers in 2019 playing in all 11 games as the long snapper. He saw time in both of the shortened 2020 games at long snapper. Last year in 2021, he was part of the seven-win campaign again spending time as the long snapper playing in all 11 games. So far this year, he has served as the main long snapper for all nine games. For his career at UWA, Veal has played in 33 games.
Gabriel Dunkle, from Glendora, Calif., played at Glendora High School and spent time at Mount San Antonio College before arriving at West Alabama. Dunkle played right away during the shortened 2020 season making three field goals, with a long of 40 yards. Last year in 2021, Dunkle played in all 11 games, connecting on 16 field goals and 44 extra points. He made a long of 47 yards and led all GSC kickers making 1.5 field goals per game. So far this season, Dunkle has played in all nine games making nine field goals, with a long of 47 yards. He has made all 24 extra points as well. In addition to the kicking duties, Dunkle has also handled the kickoff duties throughout his career. For his career, Dunkle has played in 22 games, making 28 field goals and 75 extra points.
Delvin Salter, from Memphis, Tenn., played at Whitehaven High School and at Austin Peay before arriving at West Alabama. He played right away during the shortened 2020 season starting both games along the offensive line. Last year in 2021, Salter started all 11 games, helping the offense to 383 points, 4,915 yards and 48 touchdowns. So far this season, Salter has played in seven games along the offensive line, helping the Tigers to 207 points, 3,538 yards and 26 touchdowns. For his career at UWA, Salter has played in 20 games and has helped the Tigers amass 9,387 yards, 81 touchdowns and 653 points.
Kordell Watts, from Vicksburg, Miss., played at Vicksburg High School and at Jones County Junior College before arriving at West Alabama. Watts made an impact right away in his first season for the Tigers during the 2019 season playing in eight games along the offensive line and spending time at center. UWA compiled 323 points, along with 4,510 yards and 43 touchdowns that season. During the shortened 2020 season, Watts started both games helping the Tigers tally 63 points, 934 yards and seven touchdowns in the two wins. Last year in 2021, Watts started all 11 games in helping UWA pick up 383 points, 4,915 yards and 48 touchdowns. So far this season, Watts has started each game at center with UWA compiling 207 points, 3,538 yards and 26 touchdowns. For his career at UWA, Watts has played in 30 games and helping the Tigers accumulate 13,897 yards, 124 touchdowns and 976 points.
Jalen Gardner, from Millport, Ala., played at South Lamar High School and has spent his entire career at West Alabama. Following a redshirt season, he began his career at West Alabama in 2018 where he played in eight games along the offensive line. During the shortened 2020 season, Gardner played in both games helping the Tigers tally 63 points, 934 yards and seven touchdowns in the two wins. So far this season, Gardner has started at left tackle for each game, helping UWA compile 207 points, 3,538 yards and 26 touchdowns. For his career at UWA, Gardner has played in 30 games and helped the Tigers accumulate 13,897 yards, 124 touchdowns and 976 points.
Terrance Monroe, from Petal, Miss., played at Petal High School and spent time at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College before arriving at West Alabama. Monroe played his first season in Livingston during the shortened 2020 season seeing time in both games and collected a tackle against Savannah State. Monroe played in all 11 games last year in 2021 coming away with six tackles and a blocked kick. So far this season, he has played all nine games this year with 18 tackles, 12 solo, two QB hurries and a fumble recovery. For his career, Monroe has played 22 games, coming away with 25 tackles, a blocked kick and fumble recovery.
UWA enters the week 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference after another close battle this past weekend in Florida. The Tigers stayed right with No. 9 West Florida, holding the Argos to five field goals, but UWF was also able to find the end zone three times to claim the 36-24 victory in Pensacola. UWA tied the game at seven following a four-yard TD run by Battle and then took the lead at 10-7 on a 40-yard field goal by Dunkle. After the Argos scored 16 unanswered points, the Tigers fought back to within 30-24 down the stretch on a 57-yard bomb from Battle to Darius Nalls.
Melton completed 14-27 for 198 yards, while Battle added the 57-yard TD pass. Bry Webb rushed for 64 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown. Battle added 54 yards on the ground and a touchdown in 13 tries. Antonio Brown rushed eight times for 48 yards. Nalls had another strong receiving game with four catches for 89 yards and a score. Kristopher Binion had his biggest game of the season with five catches for 72 yards. John Hilbert added two catches for 71 yards.
On defense, Trevon Stanford had eight tackles (six solo). Newell and Anderson each had six tackles, with Anderson adding a tackle for loss. Both collected a pass breakup. Darmario Nichols was all over the field with five tackles, four solo, a forced fumble and an interception.
Entering the week, UWA is averaging 23 points and allowing just 20.67. The Tigers average 393.1 yards per game and allow 332.4 yards per contest. UWA has scored 26 touchdowns, while opponents have recorded 20 scores. The Tigers remain strong in the red zone going 22-23 inside the 20 resulting in points and are 17-23 finding the end zone. Opponents are 26-35 inside the 20, while the defense has held teams to just 11-35 on touchdowns.

Melton has completed 146-283 for 1,783 yards and 13 touchdowns. Battle has the other touchdown pass this year. On the ground, Webb leads the team rushing 112 times for 611 yards and five touchdowns. Battle has 121 carries for 555 yards and four touchdowns. Brown adds 57 carries for 320 yards and a touchdown. Battle is now all alone in eighth on the program list in career rushing touchdowns with 23. One more touchdown ties him for fifth and two more touchdowns moves him into a tie for fourth. Following 54 more rushing yards this past week against West Florida, Battle is now at 1,817 for his career and keeps him 10th on the program list. He is now just 43 yards away from moving up to ninth on the list and 56 yards away from moving to eighth. Hilbert leads the receivers catching 35 passes for 499 yards and three touchdowns. Nalls leads the team in receiving scores with six, hauling in 35 passes for 443 yards. Caeleb Bass adds 22 catches for 286 yards and a score.
Anderson is approaching 100 tackles on the season sitting at 81 on the year, with 59 coming solo. He also has 10 tackes for loss, three sacks, three QB hurries, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass defended. Stanford has 51 tackles, 37 solo, along with six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, three pass breakups, an interception and a QB hurry. Shamar Lewis has 45 tackles, 37 solo, with three tackles for loss, two interceptions, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Devonchae Bryant has had a big season with 36 tackles, 23 solo, along with 12 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, three QB hurries and three passes defended. Lamar Gray also has 36 tackles, with 27 solo, along with five tackles for loss, a sack, three passes defended, a QB hurry and a blocked kick. Newell with 31 tackles and Kel Williams with 30 stops gives UWA seven with at least 30 tackles. Jamal Ellis has 8.5 tackles for loss and five sacks, along with five QB hurries. De Mays adds two interceptions to tie Lewis for the team lead.
On special teams, Trey Sullivan has punted 50 times for an average of 36.8 yards, landing 17 inside the 20 and has a long of 53 yards. Dunkle is 9-14 on field goals, with a long of 47 yards. He has added an average of 56 yards on 43 kickoffs this year, sending five for touchbacks. On returns, Dearrius Nelson has returned 14 punts for 161 yards, with a 92-yard TD return against North Greenville. Nelson has 19 kickoff returns for 416 yards, with a long of 88 yards. Webb has seven kickoff returns for 158 yards, with a long of 46 yards.

Mississippi College enters the week with the same record of 4-5 overall, but are 3-3 in GSC play. The Choctaws have lost two straight against West Florida (45-17) and Delta State (52-38) over the past two weeks. Prior to that stretch, MC had won three straight against West Georgia (39-38), Shorter (35-21) and Valdosta State (49-40).
MC is averaging 28.22 points and allowing 33.89. They average 415.1 yards per game and have scored 35 touchdowns. Opponents are averaging 431.7 yards and have scored 41 touchdowns. The triple option attack has three running backs with over 500 yards on the ground. Marcus Williams leads the team rushing for 798 yards on 84 carries and nine touchdowns. Quarterback John Henry White has rushed for 737 yards on 112 carries and five touchdowns. Cole Fagan has 96 carries for 542 yards and six touchdowns. White has passed for 275 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Stephens has nine catches for 240 yards and a touchdown. Sam Wilder adds five catches for 113 yards and a two scores.
On defense, Grant Watts has 47 tackles, 35 solo, along with three tackles for loss, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Nick Grady has 41 tackles, 30 solo, five pass breakups and two interceptions. Jason Betz and Ridge Futral each have 38 tackles. Jalean Brown adds three tackles for loss and a sack.
On special teams, Houston Smith is averaging 40.78 yards on 23 punts, with four landing inside the 20 and four traveling over 50 yards. Ben Pledger has made four field goals. On returns, Wilder has nine punt returns for 65 yards and Williams has returned 22 kickoffs for 574 yards.
UWA is 25-20-2 against Mississippi College since the first meeting in 1946. UWA had reeled off nine straight wins before the Choctaws picked up the 28-24 victory last season. During last year's meeting in Livingston, the teams went right down to the end before MC scored with two minutes left to claim the 28-24 victory. UWA trailed all game until a 10-yard TD pass from Jack McDaniels to Harper pushed the Tigers in front at 24-21 with 4:16 to play. MC then answered back driving 57 yards on four plays to regain the lead at 28-24 with 2:06 to play. UWA tried to answer that drive late, but an interception ended the game.
A look around the Gulf South Conference standings has No. 6 Delta State leading the way at 9-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play. No. 8 West Florida is right behind at 7-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play. No. 19 West Georgia is 6-2 overall and 4-2 in conference play sitting in third-place. Mississippi College is 4-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play. A trio of teams are tied for fifth at 2-4. Valdosta State and West Alabama are both 4-5 overall. North Greenville is also 2-4 and is 3-6 overall. Rounding out the conference standings, Shorter is 2-7 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
Games around the conference schedule this week has West Georgia at Delta State, North Greenville at Shorter and West Florida and Valdosta State. In the NCAA Regional Rankings, Delta State is the top-seed and West Florida is the fourth-seed in Super Region 2.
Following the last home game of the season this week, UWA will travel back to Delta State next week to face the Statesman on Saturday, Nov. 12 starting at 2 p.m. in Cleveland, Miss.

- - UWA is 25-20-2 against MC, as the Tigers had won nine-straight in the series that was snapped with the 28-24 win by MC last year in Livingston
- - Demetrius Battle rushed for a game-high 139 yards and a touchdown in last year's meeting. Owen Harper and Darius Nalls each added touchdown catches
- - Michael Anderson and Lamar Gray each had eight tackles
- - UWA is 2-5 this season when the opponent scores first, coming back to win road games at Morehouse and Valdosta State. The one at the Blazers was even more impressive after falling behind by 14 points early before claiming the three-point win. The Tigers are 2-0 in games in which they score first (Miles, 31-0/Shorter, 37-14)
- - Demetrius Battle is now all alone in eighth on the program list in career rushing touchdowns with 23. One more touchdown ties him for fifth and two more touchdowns moves him into a tie for fourth. Following 54 more rushing yards this past week against West Florida, Battle is now at 1,817 for his career and keeps him 10th on the program list. He is now just 43 yards away from moving up to ninth on the list and 56 yards away from moving to eighth.
- - It was another strong rushing attack for the Tigers against West Florida as UWA went for 166 yards and have now rushed for at least 100 yards in 17 of the last 20 games and have eclipsed the century mark seven times this year
- - UWA passed for 255 yards against West Florida which is the 39th time in the last 40 games in which the Tigers have gone over 100 yards passing in a game, eclipsing the century mark in eight games this season
- - The defense came away with an interception against West Florida which means the Tigers have had either a sack or interception in 18 of the past 20 games. In 12 of those games, the Tigers have picked up both a sack and interception
- - It was a rarity in the game against West Florida, as neither UWA or UWF recorded a sack in the contest
- - The UWA defense has limited opponents to under 100 yards rushing in three games and under in passing yards twice, including this past week against West Florida (93 yards) and at Miles College, 89 yards. - - UWA has remained consistent once they get in the red zone. In 23 trips this year, the Tigers have scored points in 22 trips and have collected a touchdown on 17 trips. On the flip side of that, the defense has held opponents to 26 scores in 35 trips inside the 20 and have only found the end zone 11 times
- - Mississippi College picked up a big win early in the season with the 39-38 road win at then No. 25 West Georgia. The Choctaws went for two at the end to win the game
- - MC, being a triple option attack, has rushed for over 200 yards in every game this season. Reaching a season-high 598 against Valdosta State. They have four games with over 300 yards and two with over 500 yards. On the flip side of that, the passing attack has thrown for just over 100 yards twice this year (Keiser, 109, West Florida, 137)
