Softball Hosts Mississippi College in GSC Opener

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama softball team opens up Gulf South Conference play in a three-game home series against Mississippi College beginning on Saturday, Feb. 19 at UWA Softball Complex. 

The Tigers and Choctaws are scheduled to open the three-game home series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. 

UWA enters the series with a 5-5 overall record. Mississippi College brings a 5-4 record to Livingston. 

Senior Cassie Matlock leads UWA hitters with a .483 batting average. She has 29 at bats, 14 hits, three doubles, one triple, four RBIs, and 10 runs scored. 

Followed by Matlock is graduate student Kacy Noland hitting .333. The first baseman has 30 at bats, 10 hits, two doubles, seven RBIs, and three runs scored.

Hannah Mynard (1-1) is the Tigers top pitcher. The Enterprise, Ala. native has pitched a total of 19.2 innings and has a 1.83 ERA. She has given up only four earned runs, while striking out 18. 

Mississippi College is led by Lee McCall with a batting average of .469 with five doubles, one triple, one homerun, and 13 RBIs.

Avery Sanders (2-3) is the Choctaws top pitcher. The senior pitcher has pitched 33.1 total innings and has a 2.52 ERA. She has given up 12 earned runs and has striked out 28.
