Garrett-Hammett and Dent Named Second Team All-GSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - West Alabama women's basketball members Tazsa Garrett-Hammett and Bria Dent have been named to the 2021-22 All-Gulf South Conference Second Team selected by the league's coaches. 

Garrett-Hammett finished the regular season ranked second in the GSC for scoring, averaging 18 points per game. She is also averaging 6.5 rebounds per game, ranking her 12th in the conference.

During her time as a Tiger, the LaGrange, Ga. native has played in 124 games and has started in 116 in her five seasons. She reached her 1,000th point milestone in her third season as a Tiger, and has since accumulated 1,880 points, ranking her first on the Tiger all-time points scored list. She is also currently first on the Tiger all-time field goals made list with 649 and second in rebounds with 859.


The senior forward has collected multiple accolades during her time at UWA. She was named to the All-GSC West Division Team in 2021, UWA Women's Basketball Team of the Decade in the summer of 2020, 2018 GSC Freshman of the Year, and was named to the GSC All-Tournament Team in 2018. 

Dent finished the regular season leading UWA in rebounds and is ranked third in the GSC, averaging 9.6 rebounds a game. She is also the second leading scorer for the Tigers, averaging 14.3 points per game, ranking her 11th in the conference.

During her time as a Tiger, Dent has played in 97 games and started in 84 of them. She has accumulated 1,252 points. Dent is currently ranked first on the Tiger-all time rebounds list with 966 rebounds. She also has 127 assists, 152 steals, and nine blocks. 

The junior guard has been named 2021 All-GSC West Division Team, 2020 All-GSC Second Team, and named GSC Freshman of the Week four times in 2018-19.

Garrett-Hammett, Dent, and the rest of the Tigers take on Valdosta State in the first round of the GSC Championship Tournament tonight. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT at The Complex in Valdosta, Georgia.
