UWA Softball Visits Christian Brothers on Saturday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - West Alabama softball opens up the three-game Gulf South Conference series against Christian Brothers at Bland Field on Saturday. 

The Tigers battle the Bucs in a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday, followed by a single game at noon on Sunday. 

UWA enters the series with a 12-12 overall record and is 4-5 in GSC play. The Bucs are 7-17 overall and 1-7 in the conference. 

This is the 36th matchup between West Alabama and Christian Brothers. West Alabama is leading the series 31-5. In the latest matchup, UWA slid by CBU 3-2 on February 27, 2021 in Livingston. The Tigers downed the Bucs 9-1 in the first matchup between the two teams on April 7, 2006 in Decatur, Ala. 

Cassie Matlock is leading UWA hitters with a .385 batting average. The senior outfielder has 65 at bats, 25 hits, four doubles, a triple, nine RBIs, and has scored 16 runs. 

Following Matlock is Kacy Noland. The Carrollton, Ala. native is hitting .384. The senior first baseman has 73 at bats, 28 hits, three doubles, two triples, three home runs, 21 RBIs, and has scored 18 runs. 

Hannah Mynard (6-3) leads UWA pitchers with a 4.34 ERA. She has given up 31 earned runs, struck out 56, and walked 34 over 64.1 innings. 

Kendall Westbrooks leads the CBU hitters with a .319 batting average. She has 72 at bats, 23 hits, seven doubles, two triples, one home run, 12 RBIs, and has scored 20 runs. 

Mackenzie Puckett (4-4) is the Bucs' top pitcher with an ERA of 4.82. She has given up 34 earned runs, struck out 27, and walked 32 over 49.1 innings.
