UWA Releases 2022 Football Schedule

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama will open its 2022 football season against three opponents from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference before finishing with seven consecutive Gulf South Conference games and a game in the GSC Playoff Preview.

"We are really excited to get our 2022 schedule finalized with all 11 opponents being from NCAA Super Region 2," Tiger head coach Brett Gilliland said. "I am also glad to have all three Alabama NCAA Division II football playing schools playing each other this year.

The Tigers are set to open with road games at Morehouse College on Sept. 3 and Miles College on Sept. 10 before showcasing renovations to Tiger Stadium at the home opener Sept. 17 against Tuskegee, which is also Family Day on the UWA campus.

"I hope to see a great out-of-conference rivalry between our three state universities continue in the future," Gilliland said. "As always, this schedule will be a challenging one and we are excited to see our Tigers compete."

Visits from West Georgia and Shorter on Sept. 24 and Oct. 1, respectively, open GSC play and complete a three-game homestand. Sept. 24 will be Military Appreciation Day. The Oct. 1 UWA Athletic Hall of Fame game against Shorter will also be a "Pink Out" at Tiger Stadium to promote breast cancer awareness.

Road trips the following two weeks to Valdosta State (Oct. 8) and Delta State (Oct. 15) will move the Tigers four games deep into conference play.

West Alabama hosts North Greenville (Oct. 22) for Homecoming, travels to West Florida (Oct. 29) and hosts Mississippi College (Nov. 5) for Senior Day before closing the regular season with the GSC Playoff Preview on Nov. 12 against a GSC opponent to be named later in the season.

As UWA nears the completion of the largest renovation of Tiger Stadium since 1978, the significance and needs for the facility grow with each step. The stadium's role is two-fold—to serve and accommodate.

Space, efficiency, aesthetics, safety, sustainability, and function are all wrapped into a plan that will create an enhanced game day environment while also meeting the daily needs of a growing campus.

There is still time to be a part of the next chapter at Tiger Stadium. Tiger fans can give online at www.uwa.edu/TigerStadium or by mail to Tiger Stadium Renovation, UWA Station 6, Livingston, AL 35470.
