UWA Softball Visits Shorter for GSC Weekend Series

ROME, Ga. - West Alabama takes on Shorter University in a three game weekend series starting on Saturday at Alto Park Softball Complex. The Tigers battle Shorter in a doubleheader game on Saturday at noon. The single game will be held on Sunday with a start time also at noon. 

UWA heads into the series with a 9-9 overall record and is 1-2 in GSC play. Shorter is 4-14 overall and 1-5 in conference play. 

This is the 18th matchup between the Tigers and the Hawks. Shorter is leading the series 10-8. In the latest matchup, the Tigers defeated the Hawks 12-4 on March 13, 2021 at UWA Softball Complex. 

Cassie Matlock is leading UWA hitters with a .386 batting average. The senior outfielder has  44 at bats, 17 hits, three doubles, one triple, six RBIs, and has scored 11 runs.

Following Matlock is Kacy Noland. The Carrollton, Ala. native is hitting .360. The senior first baseman has 50 at bats, 18 hits, two doubles, one triple, one home run, 13 RBIs, and has scored 11 runs. 

Hannah Mynard (3-2) leads UWA pitchers with a 3.51 ERA. She has given up 16 runs and has struck out 34. 

Senior shortstop Sydney Poston leads the Hawks' hitters with a .688 batting average.
