Women Finish First, Men Place Eighth at UT Martin Rodeo

MARTIN, Tenn. – West Alabama rodeo competed in the 54^th annual UT Martin Spring College Rodeo on Thursday through Saturday, the women finished in first place with 395 points and the men finished eighth with 175 points in the Ozark Region competition.

"We have such an awesome group of ladies. Every one of them brings something valuable to the table and the proof is in the results. There's a lot of rodeos still left, and we must remain focused," head rodeo coach Daniel Poole said.

Heather McLaughlin and Joanna Hammett finished first and second in goat tying. McLaughlin placed second in breakaway roping. Pearl River Community College's Ashley Henderson won breakaway roping.

"It's been a rough go for the men this semester. I look for us to spend this week off from competition to evaluate what is keeping us from getting over the hump," Poole said.

Missouri Valley College won on the men's side and the host Tennessee-Martin placed second.

Chase Graves and Mason Theriot from PRCC placed third in team roping. Graves placed fifth in calf roping.

West Alabama's next rodeo will be at Arkansas-Monticello on April 21st at the Drew County Fairgrounds in Monticello, Ark.
