UWA Softball Heads to Union

JACKSON, Tenn. - West Alabama softball team opens up the Gulf South Conference series against Union on Friday at Fesmire Softball Field. 

The Tigers will open with a doubleheader on Friday with a start time at 1 p.m. The single game will be held on Saturday with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.

The Tigers are 20-18 overall and 10-11 in GSC play. The Bulldogs are 13-24 overall and 7-14 in the conference. 

Cassie Matlock is leading the Tigers with a .385 batting average, ranking her eighth in the GSC. The senior outfielder has 109 at bats and 42 hits with eight doubles, three triples, and one home run. She is ranked sixth in the GSC for hits.

Kacy Noland is hitting .382 for UWA. The first baseman has 123 at bats, 47 hits with 12 doubles, two triples, and five home runs. Her 123 at bats ranks her fourth in the GSC, fourth for hits, second for doubles, and 15th for triples. Noland has collected 37 RBIs, ranking her fourth in the conference, along with being ranked eighth for runs scored with a total of 32. 

Breanna Fortenberry is the leading UWA pitcher with a 3.68 ERA. She has given up six earned runs, struck out eight, and walked two over 14.2 innings of work. 

Union junior Alyssa Ward is leading the Bulldogs' hitters with a .361 batting average. She had 119 at bats, 43 hits with three doubles and two triples.
