Beaman Named GSC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year, Seven Players Earn All-GSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – West Alabama tennis has multiple athletes on the All-GSC team with five on the women's side, two on the men's side, and Jeff Beaman was named Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.

Almudena Sanz, Katia de la Garza, and Haina Franco were named to the Women's All GSC First Team. Heden Ly and Irawan "Ming" Deewajee were named to the All GSC Second Team, while Deewajee won Freshman of the Year.

On the men's side, Ilari Vesanen and Loic Danze made the All-GSC Second Team. Beaman won Women's Tennis Coach of the Year for the third time since 2019. Since 2019, the UWA women have put together a 34-1 record in GSC regular season matches.

Collectively the women's All GSC players have a 67-13 record this season in singles play.

The UWA women are 16-4 overall this season and 10-0 in GSC play. The Tigers are the first seed in the GSC Championships and will be taking on eighth seeded Mississippi College on Thursday as the Tigers begin to defend their 2021 GSC Championship.

The UWA men are 9-9 overall and 6-3 in GSC and are the fourth seed in the men's bracket. They will be taking on fifth seeded Auburn-Montgomery at 10 a.m. at the O'Connor Tennis Center on Thursday.

Vesanen and Danze have collected a 22-7 record in singles play.
