UWA Softball Opens GSC Series Against UAH on Saturday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - West Alabama softball team opens the last regular season Gulf South Conference series against Alabama Huntsville with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Charger Park. UWA will close out the series Sunday with a single game at noon.

The Tigers enter the series with a 26-20 overall record and are 15-12 in GSC play. The Chargers are 32-14 overall and are 18-9 in the conference.

Cassie Matlock is leading the Tigers with a .421 batting average, ranking her fifth in the GSC. The senior outfielder has tallied 61 hits on 145 at bats with 10 doubles, five triples and two home runs. Matlock has collected 31 RBIs and scored 41 runs. She has stolen 28 bases on her 33 attempts. She is ranked first in triples, second in stolen bases, and fourth for runs scored and hits.

Kacy Noland is hitting .377, ranking her 10th in the GSC. The pitcher has 146 at bats, 55 hits with 14 doubles, three triples, and seven home runs. Noland has recorded 49 RBIs and scored 42 runs. Her 146 at bats ranks her fifth in the GSC, sixth for hits, fourth for doubles, 13th for triples, second in runs scored, and first in hit by pitch.

Hannah Mynard and LP Trammell are also on the GSC leader board in doubles. Mynard leads the GSC with 15 doubles, and Trammell moved to fifth with 12 doubles. Kelsie Gilliam is ranked third in the conference for stolen bases with 25.

Mynard is leading the Tigers' pitchers with 93 strikeouts, ranking her fourth in the GSC over 116.2 innings. She has also claimed 13 wins in the circle, ranking her fifth in the conference.

As a unit, UWA is ranked fifth by the NCAA Division II College Softball rankings for stolen bases per game and sixth for total stolen bases. The Tigers average 6.6 runs per game, which is ranked 26th in total runs for Division II.

UAH's infielder Shelby Brooker is hitting .438 for the Chargers, ranking her second in the GSC. She has tallied 67 hits with five doubles, five triples, and a home run. She has collected 20 RBIs and scored 43 runs.
