Women's Basketball Signs Six Student-Athletes

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama head women's basketball coach Rusty Cram is pleased to announce the signing of six student-athletes to the 2022-23 roster. 
 
The Tigers staff welcomes Sydney Schwallie, Aniyah Jenkins, Maryanne Logsdon, Kiona McCallister, Raneem Elbarky, and Allison Wallace. 
 
"We are pleased and excited about our newest Tigers," Cram said. "Each brings their own talents that will give us depth at much needed positions that we must fill. We are excited to get them on campus and get started!"
 
Sydney Schwallie
Sydney Schwallie joins the Tigers as an incoming freshman. Schwallie will graduate from Chelsea High School in May 2022. 
 
"Sydney is an incoming freshman and a fairly local athlete that we are excited about," Cram said. "We need to get help at the point guard position, and we feel Sydney can help meet that need."
 
In the 2021-22 season, Schwallie led the Lady Hornets to a 27-5 overall record and went 8-0 in the region during her senior season. The guard reached the 1,000th point milestone, was named the winningest athlete in school history and had the most assists in one game. 
 
Schwallie helped lead the Lady Hornets to four 6A Area Championships, four 6A Sweet 16 appearances, two 6A Elite 8 appearances, and one 6A Final Four appearance. She was named All-Area four times, All-County three times, All-Metro twice, All-State and All-Birmingham. 
 
"She had a stellar high school career," Cram added. "Sydney sees the floor well with the ability to score when needed. As a student of the game, she will be a nice addition to our program."
 
The Chelsea, Alabama native is a member of the National Honor Society and National Beta Club.
 
She will be pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Finance at UWA.

Sydney SChwallie

Aniyah Jenkins
Aniyah Jenkins joins the Tigers as a sophomore after starting her collegiate career at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida.
 
"We are excited about having Aniyah join our program," Cram said. "With her experience, we feel she has the potential to help us immediately. She brings size and athleticism in the area where we need it."
 
Jenkins played two seasons at Indian River State College. She played in 36 games and has started in 22 of them during her collegiate career. Jenkins has accumulated 221 points and 209 rebounds as a Pioneer.
 
In the 2021-22 season, Jenkins played in 20 games and started in 13 of them. The center sophomore averaged 6.3 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game. She scored a career-high of 21 points and brought down 16 boards against Palm Beach State College. The Pioneers were the 2022 Region 8 State Champion Runner Up.
 
The Tampa, Florida native played in 19 games and made nine starts during the 2020-21 season. She shot 44.4 percent from the field and 69.8 percent from the free-throw line, averaging 5.9 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game. 
 
Jenkins was named Second Team All-Conference her first and second year. 
 
Jenkins graduated high school in 2020 from Armwood High School in Mango, Florida. The Hawks were the 2018-19 6A District 10 Champions.
 
She graduated with an associate degree and took dual enrollment classes in high school, then finished her bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. She will be pursuing her master's degree at UWA in Business Administration.

Maryanne Logsdon
Maryanne Logsdon comes to UWA as a sophomore after starting her collegiate career at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida.
 
"Maryanne is a combo player that excels at whatever position she plays," Cram said. "She is a team player with a tremendous passion for the game. Maryanne will have an immediate impact."
 
Logsdon played three seasons with Indian River State College. She played in a total of 76 games and has started in 69 of them as a Pioneer. Logsdon has accumulated 879 points, collected 291 rebounds, dished out 251 assists, and has made 100 steals during her collegiate career. 
 
The Fort Pierce, Florida native played and started in 31 games during the 2021-22 season. She averaged 16.1 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, 4.5 assists per game, and 1.5 steals per game as the Pioneers finished their 2021-22 season with a 22-9 overall record and went 7-2 in the conference. The Pioneers were the 2022 Region 8 State Champion Runner Up.
 
During the 2020-21 season, Logsdon played in 16 games and had 13 starts. She averaged 10 points per game, and three rebounds per game as Indian River State College finished the season with a 13-5 overall record. 
 
In her first season as a Pioneer, Logsdon played in 29 games and had 25 starts. She averaged 7.6 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, dished out three assists per game and averaged 1.2 steals per game during the 2019-20 season. 
 
Logsdon was named All-American Honorable Mention twice, First Team All-Conference twice, First Team All-State twice, and Second Team All-Conference once. 
 
Logsdon graduated high school in 2019 from Fort Pierce Central. She reached the 1,000th point club, was named Player of the Year, and named All-Area four times. In 2019, Fort Pierce Central was the 7A District 10 Champions.
 
She will be pursuing her bachelor's degree in Health Science at UWA.

Mary L
 
Kiona McCallister
Kiona McCallister joins the Tigers as an incoming freshman. She will graduate from Ruston High School in May 2022. 
 
"Kiona is another incoming freshman we feel has a great future ahead of her," Cram stated. "Her potential is unlimited. She will be a nice addition to our post game."
 
McCallister was on varsity all four years of high school and averaged six points per game and seven rebounds per game during her senior season. The Bearcats were 5A District 2 Champions twice (2021, 2022).
 
McCallister was named All-Conference Honorable Mention three times and named 2020 State Farm Athlete of the Month.
 
The Ruston, Louisiana native was also on the track and field team at Ruston High School. In her 2022 indoor season, she was the 4x400-meter relay State Champion, and the Bearcats were the LHSAA Indoor Track State Champions. McCallister was the 5A District 2 Champion in the 800-meter run (2019, 2021) and 5A Regional Champion in 2021. 
 
The Ruston, Louisiana native is a member of the National Honor Society and was on the Principal's List.

Kiona
 
Raneem Elbarky
Raneem Elbarky comes to UWA as a sophomore from Hillsborough Community College. Elbarky started her collegiate career as a redshirt freshman at Seattle University. 
 
"Raneem brings size and experience with her," said Cram. "She is an international player and has been exposed to several levels of basketball. We feel that Raneem will complete our post game like a seasoned veteran."
 
Elbarky has played in a total of 42 games during her collegiate career. She has accumulated 184 points and 135 rebounds.
 
The Cairo, Egypt native played in 23 games during the 2021-22 season at Hillsborough Community College. She shot 47.4 percent from the field and 63 percent from the free-throw line, averaging 5.7 points per game and four rebounds per game.  
 
Elbarky spent her 2020-21 season at Seward County Community College as a redshirt freshman due to COVID-19. She played in 19 games, shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line. She scored 54 points and brought down 44 boards. 
 
Prior to that, Elbarky started her collegiate career as a redshirt freshman at Division I Seattle University in Seattle, Washington, for the 2019-20 season.
 
Before college, Elbarky played for Al Ahly, an Egyptian basketball club, for nine years. She won the Egyptian League Champions four times, was named most valuable player in the Egyptian League (2016, 2018), played with the top senior team at age 15, and was the captain of the Egyptian Youth National Team. 
 
She represented Egypt in the 2017 U19 World Championships, helping Egypt to their first historic win in the championships. She also represented Egypt in the Junior 3x3 Championships.
 
During her last year with Al Ahly, Elbarky averaged 14.3 points per game, eight rebounds per game, and three assists per game. 
 
Elbarky graduated from Al Afak Al Gadede International School in 2018. She will be pursuing a bachelor's degree in Integrated Marketing Communications at UWA.

Raneem
 
Allison Wallace
Allison Wallace joins the Tigers as an incoming freshman. Wallace will graduate from Frederick Douglass High School in May 2022.
 
"Allison brings good size and shooting for us," Cram said. "She has a high basketball IQ coupled with a strong work ethic. We are excited to get her on campus!"
 
Wallace has reached the 1,000th point milestone and has accumulated 1,341 points and 825 rebounds since being on varsity in 2018.
 
In the 2021-22 season, Wallace led the Broncos to a 19-9 overall record, 11-5 region record, and a 7-2 district record. The Broncos were the 2022 District 42 Tournament Runner Up. During her senior season, Wallace averaged 14 points per game, nine rebounds per game, three steals per game, and dished out five assists per game.
 
Wallace was named to the District 42 All-Tournament Team (2021), Region 11 All-Tournament Team (2021), Region 11 All-Region (2022), First Team All-City (2022), and was a 2022 Player of the Year nominee.
 
The Lexington, Kentucky native was named First Team All-State Academic, Student of the Month, and has her Certified Nursing Assistants Certification. 
 
She will be pursuing a bachelor's degree in Cell and Molecular Biology at UWA.
