LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama wrapped up another semester in the classroom, and the Department of Athletics is proud to announce the Scholar-Athlete Medallion recipients.
17 student-athletes wore the medallions as a part of their academic success at commencement exercises held this past weekend at the UWA Auditorium.
To earn a Scholar-Athlete medallion, a student-athlete must have completed her/his eligibility as a Tiger student-athlete and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better.
"We are especially pleased to award 17 Scholar Athlete Medallions to distinguish those Tigers who earned success in both the classroom and their competition venues," said Director of Athletics Kent Partridge. "Our goal never changes for our student-athletes. When their time at UWA is over we want to them to leave with a degree, a medallion and a championship ring."
In addition, 53 current or former student-athletes, 48 undergraduates and five graduates, earned their degrees this past weekend. 17 were from students who finished their coursework in the summer, while 36 completed their academic responsibilities this fall.
"We continue to be so very proud and happy for our Tiger student-athletes for achieving their graduation goal," added Partridge.
