Jacob Smith Named GSC Pitcher of the Week

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama baseball pitcher Jacob Smith (3-1) won the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week based on his performances against Auburn Montgomery.
 
The Calera, Alabama native pitched all seven innings in the final game of a GSC series against AUM on Saturday. He held AUM to only three hits, no runs, and two walks. Of the 26 batters he faced, Smith struck out 11 of them.
 
Smith's performance on the mound secured the series win for the Tigers, after splitting the first two games. In the first game of the Saturday doubleheader, the Warhawks had 16 runs and 13 hits to tie up the conference series at one win a piece. Smith's impact was felt as AUM was held to only three hits afterwards and no runs scored.
 
Smith and the rest of the Tigers will be back at Tartt Field on Friday against Christian Brothers in the first of a three-game conference series.
