Grand Slam Earns Trammell GSC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - West Alabama softball shortstop LP Trammell earned Gulf South Conference Player of the Week after hitting a grand slam against No. 5 North Georgia last Saturday. 

Trammell's standout performance led the Tigers to a 7-4 win over No. 5 North Georgia. She went 4-for-4 from the plate. Trammell hit a grand slam in the first inning to give the Tigers the 4-0 lead over UNG. She then hit another home run in the third inning, extending the lead to 5-2. Trammell closed out the game in the seventh inning with a single up the middle, to bring teammate Gaddy Ustey across the plate to claim the 7-4 win. 

The Germantown, Mississippi native led UWA hitters with a .438 batting average over six games last week. Trammell went 7-for-16 at the plate with a double, three home runs, 9 RBIs, and scored four runs.

Trammell and the rest of the Tigers return to action on Friday at the Flagler Tournament in St. Augustine, Florida. UWA opens the tournament against Emory & Henry College at 1:30 p.m.
