Women’s Rodeo Take First Place at East Mississippi Community College’s 11th Annual Intercollegiate Rodeo, Men Place Fifth

SCOOBA, Miss. – The West Alabama Women's Tiger Wranglers placed first in the East Mississippi Community College's 11th Annual Intercollegiate Rodeo at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center in the three-day event, that concluded on Saturday night.
 
"We are proud of the way our women's team competed as a whole," head coach Daniel Poole said. "Moving forward we can't take anything for granted and we have to keep doing everything possible to win."
 
The West Alabama women compiled 315 points to run away with first place. The Tiger men scored 235 points to place fifth.
 
Heather McLaughlin dominated in goat tying with a finish of 175 points. The closest competitor was 45 points behind. In addition to McLaughlin's big win, Raven Clagg, finished third in breakaway roping with 80 points.
 
Jaylie Matthews finished fourth in barrel racing with 60 points.
 
Tiger Wranglers Kota Wilhite and Clay Livengood, tied for first at tie down roping thanks to a 11.1 in the first round and 9.7 in the short go.
 
Kade Goemmer tied for third in steer wrestling, with 90 points.
 
Chase Graves tied for third in team roping, with a finish of 110 points. Graves scored 8.3 in the first round and 6.5 in the short go.
 
"Men's team had some individual success, but it wasn't the result we hoped for as a team," Poole said. "It's imperative that we practice this week with a purpose to eliminate the mistakes."
 
 The Tiger Wranglers hit the road for the Pearl River Community College Rodeo at the Pearl River Fairgrounds on Thursday, for a three-day event.
