Softball Moves to No. 23 in NFCA Division II Coaches Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - West Alabama's softball team moved into the No. 23 spot in week nine of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.
 
The Tigers are 29-10 overall and 18-6 in GSC play. UWA battles Southeastern Baptist College in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at UWA Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.  
 
Senior LP Trammell leads UWA hitters with a .390 batting average. She leads the GSC with a 1.000 slugging percentage. The shortstop has tallied 39 hits with eight doubles and a triple. Trammell has hit 17 bombs this season, ranking her second in the GSC in home runs and third nationally. She has collected 42 RBIs and scored 35 runs. 
 
Sophomore Taylor Clegg is hitting .361. She has tallied 39 hits with 12 doubles, two triples, and eight home runs. She has collected 36 RBIs and scored 40 runs. Clegg is ranked second in the GSC in stolen bases with 22 and tied for 37th in stolen bases nationally. 

 Kelsie Gilliam is hitting .350. She has tallied 35 hits and has scored 38 runs. Gilliam leads the GSC in stolen bases with 45, ranks third nationally in stolen bases, and fourth nationally in stolen bases per game.
 
Junior Madison Wright (17-7) leads the Tigers in the circle. Wright has pitched 140.0 innings and has a 2.40 ERA. She has given up 48 earned runs. She has notched 141 strikeouts.
 
Wright is ranked in multiple categories in the conference. She ranks second in batters struck out, batters struck out looking, and innings pitched. She ranks third in opposing batting average and wins. Wright ranks fourth in ERA and saves. 
 
UWA ranks second in total stolen bases, third nationally in home runs and hit by pitch, sixth in stolen bases per game, 10th in slugging percentage, tied for 17th in total runs, 30th in scoring, and 34th in on-base percentage. 
 
North Georgia ranks first in the poll with a 39-3 overall record. Three other GSC schools are also ranked. Alabama Huntsville (33-7) ranks fifth, Valdosta State (32-6) ranks ninth, and Mississippi College (28-7) ranks 19th.
