Tiger Softball Heads to Valdosta for GSC Series

VALDOSTA, Ga. - West Alabama's softball team opens the three-game Gulf South Conference series against Valdosta State with a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. CT at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park. The single game will be Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.

The Tigers are 28-8 overall and 17-4 in GSC play. The Blazers are 30-5 overall and 16-2 in the conference.

Senior LP Trammell leads UWA hitters with a .390 batting average. She leads the GSC with a 1.000 slugging percentage. The shortstop has tallied 39 hits with eight doubles and a triple. Trammell has hit 17 bombs this season, ranking her second in the GSC in home runs and is tied for second nationally. She has collected 42 RBIs and scored 35 runs.

Sophomore Taylor Clegg is hitting .361. She has tallied 39 hits with 12 doubles, two triples, and eight home runs. She has collected 36 RBIs and scored 40 runs.

Kelsie Gilliam is hitting .350. She has tallied 35 hits and has scored 38 runs. Gilliam leads the GSC in stolen bases with 45. Clegg is right behind her in second with 22.

Junior Madison Wright (16-6) leads the Tigers in the circle. Wright has pitched 127.0 innings and has a 2.20 ERA. She has given up 40 earned runs. She has notched 130 strikeouts.

Wright is ranked in multiple categories in the conference. She ranks second in batters struck out, batters struck out looking, and opposing batting average. She ranks third in wins and innings pitched. Wright ranks fourth in ERA and saves.

UWA ranks third nationally in home runs and hit by pitch, fourth in total stolen bases and slugging percentage, fifth in stolen bases per game, 17th in scoring, 21st in on-base percentage and in total runs.

Abby Sulte is hitting .418 for the Blazers. She has 41 hits with 18 home runs, 48 RBIs, and scored 34 runs.
