Women’s Tennis End Season at NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The West Alabama women's tennis team fell to No. 4 seed Lynn University in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament Monday afternoon, 4-1.

"Not the ending we wanted, but they are a team that can compete for the national championship," head coach Jeff Beaman said. "They showed up tough and ready to play today."

The Tigers finished their season with a 19-6 overall record.

"I want to thank our seniors Haina Franco and Yurie Takanishi for everything they brought to this team," Beaman said. "I also want to mention Emiri Takanishi for my unofficial most improved award. She went from not playing her freshman year to a standout sophomore year."

In doubles play, the Takanishi sisters defeated LU's Giorgia Pigato and Kristen Younes on court No. 2, 6-2. Franco and Ming Deewajee defeated LU's Salma Djoubri and Dolores Molina on court No. 1, clinching the doubles point for the Tigers. On court No. 3, Hardija Vidnere and Heden Ly defeated LU's Zofia Podbiol and Barbora Cibakova, 7-6.

In singles play, Vidnere fell to LU's Zofia Podbiol on court No. 4, 6-0, 6-2. Ly was defeated by LU's Giorgia Pigato on court No. 3, 6-1, 6-3. On court No. 1, Franco fell to LU's Salma Djoubri, 6-1, 6-3. Deewajee was defeated by LU's Dolores Molina on court No. 6, 6-4, 6-4. Y. Takanishi and E. Takanishi went unfinished on their courts.
