UWA Softball Opens the NCAA South Regional Tournament Against Nova Southeastern on Thursday

SAINT LEO, Fla. - The West Alabama softball team continues postseason play at the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament against the No. 3 seed Nova Southeastern Thursday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. CT at University Softball Field on Saint Leo University's campus.

UWA enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed with a 41-12 overall record. The Tigers are one win away from tying the most wins at UWA. Currently, Will Atkinson holds the most recent highest win record with 42 wins during the 2009 season. The Sharks have a 38-13 overall record.

Taylor Clegg leads the Tigers from the plate with a batting average of .358 with 18 doubles, two triples, and 11 home runs. She has 50 RBIs and scored 56 runs.

Riley Sullivan moved into the top-two spot for UWA hitters after her performance at the GSC Championship Tournament. Sullivan is hitting .344 for the Tigers with five doubles, a triple, and 10 home runs.

UWA is tied for fourth nationally in home runs. The Tigers broke the season record for home runs with 87. The 2009 team held the previous record with a total of 80 bombs.

Ann Marie Stanbridge leads the GSC with 21 home runs and tied the individual home run record in a single season at UWA.

LP Trammell is hitting .338 for the Tigers with 20 home runs, one bomb shy of tying UWA's individual home run record in a single season.

The Tigers broke the stolen base record again with 169 stolen bases this season. The 2021-22 team broke the record last year with 163. UWA is ranked fourth nationally in stolen bases.

Kelsie Gilliam leads the GSC in stolen bases with 55. Gilliam broke UWA's individual stolen bases record in a single season with 55 and has already moved into the second spot on the UWA's career leader board in stolen bases with 89 over three seasons, one shortened due to COVID-19.

Madison Wright (25-8) leads the Tigers in the circle. Wright has pitched 199 innings and has a 2.32 ERA. She has notched 199 strikeouts. Wright is already making history in the UWA record book. Wright threw three perfect games this season, two against conference opponents. She is the only Tiger at UWA to have thrown more than one perfect game in one season.

Tickets will be available each day of the competition. Gates will open two hours before the first game. Saint Leo only accepts credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. General admission tickets are $8. Tournament Passes are $20.
