NEW ORLEANS – Announced on Thursday, July 13 by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the University of West Alabama women's track and field team was recognized on the USTFCCCA Academic Awards.
The program achieved the All-Academic Team award, securing a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.35.
All-Academic teams were calculated based on cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or better.
UWA joins Christian Brothers, Mississippi College, Montevallo and West Georgia from the Gulf South Conference (GSC) that were recognized.
In addition, two track student-athletes were honored as All-Academic Athletes:
Annaya Chelcy and
Kaitlin Hill.
Chelcy achieved Second Team All-GSC status with teammates Hill,
Mikia Hutchings and
Isila Apkup in the 4x100 relay with a 45.43-second performance.
Hill, who qualified for the 2023 NCAA Track and Field Championships in the 200 meters, won two gold medals at the GSC Championships this past season in the 100 and 200 events.
From the GSC, 23 student-athletes from women's track and field teams were listed as All-Academic Athletes.
