LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama softball team has released the program's 2024 schedule, announced by head coach Stephanie Defeo.
The Tigers will kick off the season on the coast at the Gulf Shores Invitational, where they will take on Nova Southeastern and St. Leo in a back-to-back on Feb. 2. The Feb. 3 slate sees the team take on Lubbock Christian and North Georgia. The women will close out their Gulf Shores competition with a morning showdown against Spring Hill on Feb 4.
The women will stay on the coastline as they head to Daytona Beach, Florida, for the Daytona Beach Invitational Feb. 9-11. Competition opens on Feb. 9 as West Alabama will take on the host in Embry-Riddle along with Tampa. The next day sees UWA rematch with Tampa and take on Eckerd in a back-to-back. The Feb. 11 conclusion will see the Tigers face Eckerd and Embry-Riddle to complete Daytona Beach play.
Gulf South Conference play opens with a weekend road trip to Union Feb. 17-18 to wrap up the team's 14-game, season-opening road swing.
UWA's home opener will see the Tigers take on the Argos of West Florida at the UWA Softball Complex Feb. 23-24. The series will open Friday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. and conclude with two contests at 1 and 3 p.m. the following day.
Conference play continues the following weekend with a road matchup with the Warhawks of Auburn Montgomery March 1-2. The series will commence on Friday night followed by a Saturday doubleheader to close out play.
The women will stay on the road for a midweek twin bill against Spring Hill March 5.
The Tigers will travel back to Livingston for a five-game home stand starting with Valdosta State in a weekend series March 10-11, followed by a midweek non-conference doubleheader with Georgia Southwestern State on March 12.
UWA will head to Mississippi the following weekend to take on Delta State in a weekend series March 16-17. The competition will open with a doubleheader on Saturday followed by the conclusion on Sunday.
West Alabama will return home March 23-24 to take on West Georgia in a GSC series. Play opens on Saturday with a double header followed by the Sunday closer at 1 p.m.
Following a midweek doubleheader with Columbus State, the women will return back home for a five-game home stand led off by a GSC series with Mississippi College March 29-30.
The following Tuesday, the home team will take on Tuskegee in a midweek doubleheader to close out the home stand.
UWA's penultimate road trip will have the visitors taking on the Flames of Lee in Cleveland, Tennessee April 6-7.
The Tigers will return to Livingston for their final home stand starting April 16 as they take on Spring Hill. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
The women close out home field play with a weekend series against the Chargers of Alabama Huntsville April 19-20. Play opens with a single game Friday at 5 p.m., followed by the doubleheader closer Saturday at 1 p.m.
UWA will close out regular season play with a five-game road trip, beginning with Miles College in a midweek doubleheader on April 24. The GSC regular season wraps up at Shorter April 27-28.
Gulf South Conference Championship play will take place at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama from May 1-4. The format will remain unchanged as the top-eight teams qualify for the tournament and it will take two losses to eliminate a competitor from the competition.
