LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama women's soccer team will look to capitalize on home-field advantage with two crucial Gulf South Conference (GSC) matchups this weekend. First, they host Union University at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by a Sunday contest against Christian Brothers University at 1 p.m.
Friday's match against Union is also West Alabama's 'Think Pink' theme as the University recognizes all of those affected by Breast Cancer.
West Alabama (1-4-3, 0-2-3 GSC) aims to earn its first conference win of the season. The Tigers have struggled to find the net, scoring just five goals in eight matches, but their defense, anchored by senior goalkeeper
Dior Wilson, has kept them competitive. Wilson, with an impressive 46 saves and a .821 save percentage, ranks among the top keepers in the conference. On the offensive side,
Aileen Charles and
Selis Demirci will look to spark the attack, having each contributed goals this season.
Union (3-2-2, 2-0-2 GSC) presents a well-rounded challenge, averaging 1.71 goals per match. Rebekah Jackson leads the Bulldogs with four goals, while Lucia Revuelto has been a key playmaker with seven assists. Defensively, Union's goalkeeper Kirsten LaVallee will look to maintain her solid form, boasting a .732 save percentage.
On Sunday, West Alabama faces Christian Brothers (0-8, 0-4 GSC), a team still searching for its first win. Despite their struggles, Christian Brothers has some dangerous players in Ana Dutra, who leads the team with one goal and one assist. The Lady Bucs have conceded 29 goals this season, providing an opportunity for UWA's offense to break through and build momentum.
Both matches will be critical for the Tigers as they aim to move up the GSC standings.
