MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The University of West Alabama Men's and Women's Rodeo team concluded the Southern Arkansas Rodeo on Saturday night.
The Men's team recorded 285 points, resulting in a fifth-place finish. For the Women's team, they accumulated a score of 60, putting them in sixth.
"This one stung," said head coach Daniel Poole. "We all made too many wrong decisions at the same place, myself included. We need to continue working on ways to prevent these mistakes from happening again. In the long run a result like this will make us stronger."
Men's Rodeo
Evan Bourdon and Tanner Brown put together the best performances for the Tigers over the weekend. Bourdon was solid in the Tie Down Roping, recorded a team-high 110 points in the event which was good enough for a second-place finish. Brown shined in the Steer Wrestling event as the senior also registered a team-high 110 points, putting him in third in the event.
Outside of Bourdon and Brown, no other UWA competitor cracked 100 points in an individual event as Kota Wilhite, Stone Reeves, and Cooper Cowan combined for 175 points over the weekend.
Women's Rodeo
The National leader in the Breakaway Roping Event continued her dominance at the Southern Arkansas Rodeo as Ashley Henderson won the event with 165 points, after recording an average of 5.1. Ivy Bone joined Henderson in the event but was only able to muster up 30 points while Sydney Poole and Summerlin O'Neill combined for 105 points in the Barrel Racing contest.
Kayla Earnhardt competed in the Goat Tying event for the Tigers but only accumulated 15 points as UWA went home with a sixth-place finish.
"We are proud of Ashley," coach Poole closed. "She executed with perfection."
West Alabama's Rodeo team will now get a month off before they return to action on November 14 for Murray State's home rodeo.
