TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's and Women's Tennis team concluded the Fall GSC Championships on Saturday.
Off the heels of her Regional and National Championship in the Doubles ITA Cup,
Valentina Mutilba led the way over the weekend. Mutilba shined in Singles, finishing third in Flight One after defeating West Florida's Carlotta Verdu in straight sets, 4-2,4-2.
"With our No.1,
Shaira Rivera, being out, I thought Valentina really stepped up and played well in her absence at the No.1 slot," said head coach Jeff Beaman.
Along with Mutilba,
Emiri Takanishi also placed in the top-three in her flight, finishing in third in Flight Three. Takanishi defeated Montevallo's Johanna Kullmann via forfeit to secure another top-three placement for West Alabama.
On the men's side, the duo of
Jacob Tapia and
Alejandro Flores picked up a top-five finish in Flight Three Doubles. The UWA tandem defeated Delta State, West Florida, and Christian Brothers en route to their fifth-place finish.
"Overall, this was a great experience playing at an SEC facility with tons of great matches," Beaman closed.
