YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The West Alabama women's basketball team dropped a 68-49 decision to Young Harris on Tuesday evening.
Despite a strong start, the Tigers struggled with offensive consistency, falling to 0-3 on the season.
West Alabama opened the game with energy, shooting 41.2% in the first quarter and taking an early lead at 5-3. However, Young Harris quickly responded, ending the quarter with a 26-17 advantage, fueled by five three-pointers.
The Tigers hit a cold spell in the second quarter, shooting 8.3% from the field and managing only four points. Young Harris capitalized, extending their lead to 40-21 by halftime.
Jordan Parker provided a bright spot for UWA, leading the team with 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Kaedre Denson added six points and six rebounds, while
Janiya Adams contributed four points, including a perfect 4-of-4 performance at the free-throw line.
West Alabama's bench accounted for 27 of the team's 49 points, showing depth and resilience despite the loss. However, the Tigers struggled to find their rhythm offensively, finishing the game shooting 29.3% from the field and 31.3% from three-point range.
Defensively, UWA had difficulty containing Young Harris' inside game, allowing 32 points in the paint. Young Harris also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Tigers 46-29, including a 13-3 edge on offensive rebounds.
The Mountain Lions were led by Pippa Delamere, who scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Karly Bates chipped in 13 points and four assists.
The Tigers made a late push in the fourth quarter, outscoring Young Harris 16-13 and going 8-of-10 from the free-throw line, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
West Alabama will look to regroup as they prepare to host Miles College on Thursday, November 21, at 5 p.m. in Pruitt Hall. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Tigers as they seek their first win of the season.
