Rivera, Iglupas Lead Philippines in Billie Jean King Cup

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Tennis program is represented at the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup as Shaira Rivera and former UWA standout, Khim Iglupas are representing the Philippines.

As of today, Rivera and Iglupas have led the Philippines to the top of their pool, with a perfect 3-0 record, and are now set to play for the promotion to the next world group on Saturday. Both Rivera and Iglupas are undefeated thus far in the Billie Jean Cup, propelling their nation to the top of the heap.

"Shai (Rivera) and Khim (Iglupas) have had a great competition so far," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "The Billie Jean King Cup is the world cup of tennis, and with a win tomorrow, the Philippines moves up to World Group II."

Rivera continues her magical fall season as she came into this week's event as the number one ranked doubles player along with her doubles' partner Valentina Mutilba after the duo won the ITA Cup Doubles National Championship earlier this fall.

As for Iglupas, she is a former singles All-American, 2024 GSC Player of the Year, and a 2024 First Team All-GSC recipient, all coming in her final season with the Tigers this past Spring.

Rivera, Iglupas, and the Philippines will get back to work on Saturday when they attempt to break through into the World Group II with a matchup against Laos on deck.
