LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The West Alabama women's basketball team (0-6, 0-2 GSC) aims for its first win of the season with two road contests this week.
The Tigers will face Lee University (7-1, 1-1 GSC) on Thursday, December 12, at 4:30 p.m., followed by a non-conference matchup against Trevecca Nazarene (3-6, 0-3 GSC) on Saturday, December 14, at 2 p.m.
The Tigers will face a tough test against the Flames, who boast a 20.1-point average scoring margin and hold opponents to just 53.0 points per game. Lee is led by Mallory Hampton, averaging 18.8 points per game on an efficient 58.6% shooting, including 57.1% from three-point range. Defensively, the Flames force nearly 20 turnovers per game, converting those into 20.8 points on average.
West Alabama will look to counter with their balanced scoring attack, led by
Kendall Lacoste (10.5 PPG) and
Callie Cowan (9.5 PPG). The Tigers must improve their rebounding (-5.7 margin) and limit turnovers (20.3 per game) to contend with Lee's disciplined and high-powered offense.
The Tigers follow up with an evenly matched contest against Trevecca Nazarene. The Trojans average 52.8 points per game while allowing 62.0, making them susceptible to scoring droughts. Their leading scorer, Amaya Thomas, contributes 11.0 points per game, with Tatum Shaw adding 9.1. Trevecca struggles from beyond the arc, shooting just 27.0% as a team.
This game presents a chance for West Alabama to exploit weaknesses, particularly in transition and three-point defense, as Trevecca has allowed opponents to hit 6.6 triples per game.
Shayla Golden (7.3 PPG, 44.7% FG) and
Julia Rodriguez (9.3 PPG, 81.1 FT%) could play pivotal roles in breaking through the Trojan defense.
The Tigers aim to secure their first victory as they navigate a challenging road trip. Consistency on both ends of the court and an improved rebounding effort will be crucial in these matchups.
