TYLER, Texas – The No. 3 University of West Alabama women's tennis team starts its trip to the Lone Star State on a sour note with a 4-2 loss to Midwestern State University, Friday afternoon from the Summer Tennis Courts on the campus of the University of Texas at Tyler.
UWA drops to 4-4, while MSU improves to 3-0.
"With the results at national indoors, the women are going to have a target on them and MSU played some aggressive doubles and fought great across the board in singles. We have great depth off the bench and this experience should make us better moving forwards," said
Jeff Beaman.
For just the second time this season, the Tigers lost the doubles point as the Mustangs took the No. 1 and No. 3 flight, with the lower flight seeing MSU get out to a 1-0 lead.
Emiri Takanishi (3-3) got UWA on the board with her win at the No. 4 singles lineup with her 6-4, 6-3 win.
Heden Ly (3-3) evened the match at two points apiece with a straight-set win at the No. 2 spot in the lineup, but Midwestern State won the two points to clinch the match.
West Alabama will remain in Texas for the next two days, as they will take on the hosts in the Patriots of the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday.
