BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the second time this season, Marissa Mitchell of the University of West Alabama softball team has been awarded Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honors after an exceptional weekend outing against Lee.
In the three-game series, Mitchell recorded a .556 batting average and accounted for five hits, with four home runs, drove in ten RBIs, and added seven runs scored. Totaling 17 bases on the week with three walks, she posted a 1.889 slugging percentage and a .692 on-base clip.
In game two of the series on Saturday, Mitchell smashed three home runs, including a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth en route to UWA's 24-15 win over Lee. The Tigers' 24 runs are the second-most in program history and was tied for the most in a conference game.
For the game, Mitchell set the UWA record for runs batted in a game with eight. The Tiger shortstop also tied the single-game home run mark with three.
The Tigers will travel to Columbus, Georgia on Thursday for a road trip to Columbus State in a doubleheader. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m. CDT.
