Softball Looks to Stay Hot as They Welcome Trojans for Three-Game Series

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama softball team returns home this weekend for a conference series against Trevecca Nazarene, beginning Thursday at the UWA Softball Complex.

Game one is scheduled for Thursday at 5:00 p.m. The series continues Friday with game two at 1:00 p.m., followed by the finale approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.

West Alabama (23-7-1, 14-4 GSC) enters the series riding a five-game winning streak, while Trevecca Nazarene (11-11, 7-11 GSC) comes to Livingston after winning two of three against Christian Brothers last weekend.

UWA heads into Thursday's opener playing some of its best softball of the season. During their current win streak, the Tigers have outscored opponents 48-9. Over that stretch, West Alabama is hitting .380 with eight home runs and has posted a 1.40 ERA in the circle.

As a result, the Tigers' team batting average has climbed to .283, while their team ERA remains among the nation's best at 1.80. Haley Shannon, Ella Watson, Kayla Morris, and Trinity Brooks are all hitting above .300, while pitchers Eleanor De Block, Megan Roe, and Ann Marie Stanbridge continue to lead a dominant staff.

Shannon leads the team with a .373 batting average entering the weekend. Watson and Morris have provided the most power in the lineup, with both also hitting in the .320s. Watson leads the team with eight home runs, while Morris follows closely with seven. Trinity Hatcher is also one of the hottest hitters in the lineup, batting .750 last weekend with an impressive .909 on-base percentage. La'Taviona Parke has made a strong case to return as the starter at DP, after hitting 1.000 last weekend along with two home runs, and seven RBIs all as a pinch hitter.

In the circle, De Block enters the series after tossing 12.0 scoreless innings against Delta State last weekend. When her command is sharp, she is difficult to hit. The senior carries a 13-6 record with a 1.52 ERA, 100 strikeouts, 0.96 WHIP, and a .154 opponent batting average into Thursday's matchup. Roe and Stanbridge have also been strong, each maintaining ERAs under 2.30.

Trevecca Nazarene is adjusting after losing of one of the program's all-time great pitchers, Ashlan Sensing, who graduated following the 2025 season. Sensing was named GSC Pitcher of the Year and finished her career as the NCAA Division II leader in wins, appearances, complete games, innings pitched, and strikeouts. Her absence has been noticeable for the Trojans this season.

After finishing 28-19 in 2025, Trevecca Nazarene sits at 11-11 through 22 games in 2026. Pitching has been the biggest difference, with the team ERA rising from 2.92 last season to 4.05 this year.

Freshman Bailey Goad has stepped into the ace role, compiling an 8-4 record with a 3.44 ERA over 73.1 innings. Sophomore Parker Herrin has also contributed with a 3.79 ERA but holds a 2-6 record due in part to limited run support.

Offensively, the Trojans are hitting .289 with four players batting above .300. Shay Hollingsworth and Annalise Mecklenburg lead the way. Hollingsworth is hitting .392 with two home runs and 11 RBIs, while Mecklenburg is batting .344 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.

Brianna Asmondy provides the most power in the lineup. A First Team All-GSC selection in 2025, she leads the team with six home runs and 17 RBIs. After hitting a career-high 14 home runs last season, the senior looks to close in on that mark again by the end of 2026.

Trevecca Nazarene features a talented roster but will need to put together a complete performance to challenge West Alabama on the road this weekend.

First pitch for game one is set for 5:00 p.m. Thursday, with games two and three scheduled as part of Friday's doubleheader.
