NEW ORLEANS – After two finishes at the finals of the 100 and 200 meters at the NCAA Championships, graduate student
Yakubu Balikis was named a First Team All-American by the U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday, May 28.
Balikis earned first team honors after securing a top-eight finish at the NCAA Championships this past weekend in Emporia, Kansas.
In the 100 meters, she improved the UWA record with a fourth place result of 11.26 seconds. In the 200 meters, she captured seventh place with a time of 23.32.
Balikis is the third UWA All-American in track and field, joining Adrienne Lewis (2019) and
Kaitlin Hill (2021) in the long jump.
Not only is she the first Tiger to earn the postseason honor in track, she is also the first to be named an All-American in multiple events.
A total of 27 student-athletes from the Gulf South Conference was listed on the All-America listing.
Balikis adds All-American to her accomplishments in 2024, where she was named All-Region, All-GSC First Team and a unanimous selection as the GSC Track Athlete of the Year.
