MARSHALL, Mo. - The University of West Alabama Men's and Women's Rodeo team concluded the Vikings Stampede Rodeo at Missouri Valley College on Saturday night.
The Men's team highlighted the Rodeo, taking home first place while the Women finished in fifth.
Men's Rodeo
Stone Reeves and Cooper Cowan were the standouts for the West Alabama Men. Reeves dominated in the Tie Down Roping event, accumulating an average of 20.4 which ranked as the highest in the field, giving the freshman 170 points. Cowan also contributed 170 points to the Tigers' team score as he exceeded in the Team Roping event, finishing the event with an average of 13.7. Alongside Reeves in Tie Down Roping, Tanner Brown also performed well, recording 120 points with an average of 21.7. Brown, Stewart Gallups, Grey Wells, and Clarke Gordan also competed in the Team Roping event, allotting 320 combined points alongside Cowan's 170 points in the event while Tyler Lovering joined Reeves in Tie Down Roping, contributing 40 points for UWA. At the conclusion of the Rodeo, the Tigers stood alone at the top with 560 team points.
Women's Rodeo
West Alabama's Katelyn Carney was the star of the weekend for the Tigers. The freshman led the way with a team-high 180 points in the Barrel Racing event, finishing with an event-best 29.54 average. Sydney Poole and Allee Rolison joined Carney in the event but were only able to muster up a combined 10 points.
Breakaway Roping was the only other event that members of UWA competed in. Ashley Teems shined for West Alabama in the event, accumulating 115 points after putting together an average of 15.8. Ashley Henderson and Sydney Poole were alongside Teems in Breakaway Roping and combined for 113.3 points to add to Teems 115. At the end of the Rodeo, the Tigers accumulated 123.3 team points, resulting in their fifth place finish.
West Alabama's Men and Women Rodeo teams will be back in action on Thursday when they kick off the 2024 Rodeo Showdown at Hines-Spree Rodeo Complex in Livingston. Tickets for the event can be purchased in the linked attached on the sidebar.
