LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama women's soccer returns home for a crucial weekend of conference play, hosting a pair of pivotal matches in the race for postseason positioning. The Tigers will take on Delta State on Friday, October 17 at 5 p.m., followed by a Red Out showdown against Mississippi College on Sunday, October 19 at 1 p.m. at UWA Soccer Field.
West Alabama (7-2-2, 4-2-1 GSC) enters the weekend sitting fourth in the Gulf South Conference standings and boasting one of the league's top defenses. The Tigers have allowed just five goals all season, holding opponents to 0.45 goals per match with a .875 save percentage. Offensively, the team averages 1.27 goals per game and has outshot opponents 130-101 on the year.
Leading the attack is 
Selis Demirci, who has scored eight goals and tallied 17 points this season. 
Bailee Fairley has added two goals, while 
Aileen Charles leads the team with two assists. In goal, 
Yumari Hernandez has been a standout with seven shutouts and 35 saves, anchoring a defense that has frustrated opponents all season long.
Delta State (3-3-4, 2-1-3 GSC) currently sits sixth in the standings and enters Friday's matchup with momentum after a strong run of results. The Statesmen have scored 15 goals this season, led by Millie Congerton with three. As a team, Delta State averages 16.3 shots per game and has converted on nearly 50 percent of its shots on goal.
Mississippi College (3-5-3, 2-2-2 GSC) follows on Sunday in a high-energy Red Out match. The Choctaws are one of the more dangerous offensive teams in the league, scoring 23 goals through 11 matches. Jadyn Mallory and Addison Weems lead the team with four goals each, while Charlie Cooper adds two goals and two assists.
With two conference opponents on deck, this weekend presents a major opportunity for West Alabama to solidify its position near the top of the standings and build momentum for the stretch run of the regular season.
