LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team returns to Gulf South Conference play with a two-match weekend, starting at home against Valdosta State on Friday, October 3 at 5 p.m., before traveling to Montgomery to face Auburn-Montgomery on Sunday, October 5 at 1 p.m.
The Tigers (3-2-2, 0-2-1 GSC) enter the weekend looking to secure their first conference victory of the season. UWA has been stout defensively, allowing just three goals through seven matches behind the strong play of goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez, who holds a 0.43 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage. Offensively, Bailee Fairley and Selis Demirci lead the way with two goals each, while Aileen Charles has added one goal and one assist.
Valdosta State (1-3-4, 0-2-1 GSC) comes into Livingston still searching for consistency in front of goal. The Blazers average 11.8 shots per match but have managed just four goals this season. Taylor Youmans leads the attack with two goals, while goalkeeper Claire Timberlake has made 35 saves on the year with a .745 save percentage.
After Friday's home test, UWA will travel to take on Auburn-Montgomery (1-4-1, 0-2-1 GSC) on Sunday. The Warhawks have been outscored 14-3 this season but picked up their lone win in a 1-0 shutout earlier in the year. Michaelyn Manning, Paula Galan Revuelta, and Aisling Roche each have one goal for AUM, while goalkeeper Karla Guzman-Ortiz has made 45 saves.
The Tigers will look to lean on their defensive stability and timely scoring to gain ground in the GSC standings as the season moves toward the midway point.
