Tigers Set for Senior Day and Final Regular Season Road Trip

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama women's soccer team is set to close out the regular season this weekend with two crucial Gulf South Conference matchups. The Tigers will celebrate Senior Day on Friday, October 31st at 5 p.m. against Spring Hill College at UWA Soccer Field, before heading to Pensacola to face #6 West Florida on Sunday, November 2nd at 12:30 p.m.

UWA enters the weekend 10-2-2 overall and 7-2-1 in GSC play, sitting third in the conference standings and having clinched home-field advantage in the opening round of the GSC Tournament. The Tigers are one of the hottest teams in the conference, riding a seven-game win streak, their longest since 2018.

West Alabama has been one of the toughest defensive units in the Gulf South all season, holding opponents to just 0.36 goals per game, the best mark in the conference. Led by standout goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez, UWA has allowed only five goals all season while recording 10 shutouts. Hernandez leads the GSC in save percentage (.911) and goals-against average (0.36), boasting a 10-2-2 record with 51 saves on 140 shots faced.

The UWA defense, anchored by Aynzlie Nelson, Emily Djagbare, Santanna O'Grady, and Mikaela Carpino, has also played a huge role in the team's success, limiting opponents to just 10 shots per game and a .036 shot percentage.

Offensively, Selis Demirci continues to shine as one of the top scorers in the GSC. The senior forward is tied for first in the league with 11 goals, adding one assist for 23 total points. She has been lethal in front of goal, scoring on nearly 25% of her shots and leading UWA with six game-winners this season.

Behind her, Bailee Fairley (2 goals, 1 assist) and Aileen Charles (1 goal, 2 assists) have provided strong support in the attack. The Tigers have scored 18 goals this season while holding opponents to just five, with 10 of those goals coming as game-winners.

Spring Hill College (6-3-6, 4-3-3 GSC) enters the weekend fifth in the GSC standings, looking to secure its spot in the conference tournament. The Badgers have been solid defensively, allowing just 0.60 goals per game with 10 shutouts. Goalkeeper Carlotta Stark has been a difference-maker with a 0.64 GAA and .870 save percentage, while Sofia Jimenez Garcia leads the offense with four goals and one assist.

Meanwhile, #6 West Florida (13-0-2, 9-0-1 GSC) remains the only unbeaten team in the league and has already clinched the top seed in the GSC Tournament. The Argonauts have been dominant on both sides of the pitch, averaging 2.47 goals per game while conceding just 0.53. Their attack is led by Olof Thorvaldsdottir (9 goals, 6 assists) and Hunter Wallace (6 goals), while goalkeeper Belle Okoroafo leads the GSC in saves and shutouts with an .878 save percentage and 0.43 GAA.

With postseason play approaching, UWA looks to keep its momentum rolling and extend its win streak heading into the GSC Tournament. A strong showing against Spring Hill on Senior Day would send the Tigers to Pensacola with confidence as they face a nationally ranked West Florida squad.

Kickoff for Senior Day against Spring Hill College is set for Friday at 5 p.m. at UWA Soccer Field, followed by the regular-season finale on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at West Florida. Fans can follow live stats and streaming links at uwaathletics.com.
