LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama Tigers women's soccer heads back on the road for a pair of crucial Gulf South Conference matchups, opening the weekend at Christian Brothers Buccaneers on Friday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. before closing out the trip against Union University Bulldogs on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
The Tigers (5-2-2, 2-2-1 GSC) currently sit seventh in the league standings. They have been solid on both ends of the field this season, outscoring opponents 11-4 and averaging 11.1 shots per match while holding opposing teams to just 0.44 goals per game.
Leading the attack is Selis Demirci with five goals and 11 points on the season, followed by Bailee Fairley with two goals and Aileen Charles with three points. On the back line, goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez has been outstanding, boasting a 0.44 goals against average with 30 saves and six shutouts.
Christian Brothers (2-5-1, 0-4 GSC) enters the weekend at the bottom of the standings. The Buccaneers have been outscored 19-5 this season but have shown attacking capability, averaging 8.6 shots per game. Mackenzie Allen, Lia Haggstrom, and Madison Woolridge each have found the back of the net once this year.
Union (2-2-3, 1-2-1 GSC) sits just below UWA in ninth place. The Bulldogs average one goal per match and are led offensively by Lucia Garcia, who has four goals and eight points on the year. Goalkeeper Antia Lopez Rodriguez anchors the defense with a 0.90 goals against average and an .857 save percentage.
The Tigers will look to build on their strong defensive identity and keep climbing the conference table as they approach the midseason stretch.
