UWA Women’s Basketball Hits the Road for GSC Showdowns

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — West Alabama women's basketball hits the road this week riding a two-game win streak, traveling to Cleveland, Mississippi, to face Delta State on Thursday before heading to Clinton, Mississippi, for a Saturday matchup at Mississippi College.

The Tigers enter the week with momentum after back-to-back conference victories, highlighted by a 62–56 win over Lee University Flames, where Bellah Machen poured in a career-high 27 points, and a 64–60 victory against Trevecca Nazarene Trojans, led by Haley Nichols' double-double performance. Machen was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week following the two wins, marking the program's first weekly honor since November 2022.

Offensively, West Alabama is averaging 68.9 points per game while shooting 40 percent from the field. Machen continues to pace the Tigers with 16.3 points per contest, while Nichols adds 11.4 points and a team-best 8.3 rebounds per game. Conference-wide, the duo ranks among the GSC's elite, with Machen sitting second in scoring and Nichols third in rebounding—forming one of the league's top inside-outside combinations.

Thursday's matchup presents a stiff test, as Delta State Statesmen enter conference play unbeaten at 4–0 and riding a four-game win streak. Delta State is coming off a 64–48 win over Auburn Montgomery and owns a marquee 67–62 victory against No. 22 Union. The Statesmen are averaging 61.5 points per game while holding opponents to just 58.4 points per contest. Olivia Allen leads the way with 10.9 points per game and 2.0 steals per outing.

West Alabama closes the road swing Saturday against Mississippi College Choctaws, who enter the week at 3–6 overall and 2–2 in league play. The Choctaws are coming off a 70–59 loss to Montevallo and average 65 points per game offensively. Valencia McFall leads the team at 14.0 points per game, with Nia Coleman contributing 12.6 points per contest.

With conference momentum building, the Tigers look to carry their balanced scoring, improved efficiency, and defensive pressure into a challenging two-game road stretch against a pair of GSC opponents.
