Cochran Adds Thomas Fletcher as Special Teams, Tight Ends Coach

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Football program and head coach Scott Cochran announced the hiring of Scott Fletcher as the program's Special Teams Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach on Tuesday.

Fletcher joins Coach Cochran's staff at West Alabama after previously serving as the Special Teams Coordinator at the University of Florida and UCLA.

"Watching Thomas grow as a coach, I can't wait to see him run his own room and take over special teams," said head coach Scott Cochran. "I know Thomas knows his stuff. He's learned from the best and now it's his turn to become the best."

Fletcher, a native of San Ramon, California, played College Football for the Alabama Crismon Tide from 2017-2020, serving as the team's starting Long Snapper across all four seasons. While at Alabama, Fletcher won National Championships with the Crimson Tide in 2017 and 2020. With a National title already secured in 2020, the Long Snapper was also named the recipient of the Patrick Mannelly Award which is awarded to the nation's top Long Snapper.

"As a player, Thomas worked really hard and was one of the hardest workers on the team," Cochran continued. "He served on our leadership team at Alabama so he was always a leader even as a student athlete."

After an impressive career at Alabama, Fletcher was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. After being a part of the Panthers for a year, Fletcher signed a contract with the Seattle Sea Dragons before the Sea Dragons shut down their operations in 2023 after the merger between the XFL and USFL that created the UFL.

Once Fletcher's playing career came to a close, the former Long Snapper got into coaching, serving as a Special Teams Graduate Assistant for Alabama in 2023. Fletcher's time with the Crimson Tide led to full-time coaching stints with Florida and UCLA before making the move to Livingston to be Cochran's Special Teams Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach.
