No. 12 Tigers Ready for GSC-Lonestar Crossover in Tyler, Texas

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team will dip out of GSC play this weekend as they are set to travel to Tyler, Texas for the GSC-Lonestar Crossover.

No. 12 West Alabama (2-1, 1-0 GSC) will begin their weekend on Friday with a matchup against Cameron University (0-0) at 11:00 a.m. before a matchup with the host school, the UT Tyler (3-0), at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers will conclude the Crossover on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with a contest against No. 4 Midwestern State University (6-1).

Valentina Mutilba and Shaira Rivera remain the leaders of UWA's squad as both bring a 3-0 singles record into the weekend. The duo is also the Tigers' top doubles' team, holding a team-best 2-1 record in doubles play. Outside of Mutilba and Rivera, freshman sensation, Alexa Milliam carries an undefeated singles record as she improved to 2-0 this past Wednesday with a clean (6-2, 6-1) over Montevallo. To round out West Alabama in Singles' play, Emiri Takanishi and Greta Zawels both hold 2-1 records as they look to expand on that in Tyler, Texas.

Cameron University will officially open up their season against UWA on Friday. CU has played in two exhibitions this year, splitting them with a win coming over Cowley College and a loss coming to UT Arlington. Anastasia Uspenskaia will occupy Line One singles and has recorded a win in both singles and doubles play through Cameron's exhibitions. Martyna Jankowska, Anna Deuringer, and Alexsa Paucar have all picked up a win as well as Cameron looks to jump start their 2025 campaign this weekend.

UT Tyler is receiving votes in the latest ITA Top-25 Poll. The Patriots have began their season by winning their first three contests with two of those wins coming over GSC opponents, Mississippi College and Delta State. Yona Bancarel, Paula Castellanos, and Natalia Gorzny have all picked up wins in singles play this year for UT Tyler while the team as a whole has yet to drop a doubles match.

As for Midwestern State University, they are one of the most talented teams in the GSC-Lonestar Crossover as they stand as the fourth ranked team in the country. The Mustangs have already beaten three top-15 team this season in the form of No. 4 Lynn University, No. 6 North Georgia, and No. 11 Washburn. The top of MSU's roster is loaded as the quartet of Jessica Binzari, Alessia Dolce, Camila Garcia, and Anda Ghinga have accumulated a combined 15-3 singles record. In doubles play, the duo of Ghinga and Binzari is a perfect 5-0 this year, making for a compelling matchup with West Alabama on Sunday.

Friday's contest against Cameron is set for 11:00 a.m. while Saturday's matchup against UT Tyler is slated for 11:00 a.m. also. Sunday's weekend finale against No. 4 Midwestern State is set for 1:00 p.m.
