CLINTON, Miss. - The University of West Alabama Track and Field Team concluded the Mississippi College Spring Classic on Saturday.
West Alabama performed well on Saturday, placing in top-10 21 times, highlighted by Dedric Hicks and Mercy Lmouria who broke School Records in the Shot Put and 5000m events and their Women's 4x400m relay team of Augusta Arnold, Jamaya Dancy, Jordan Connor, and Erica Smith who placed first in the event with a time of 4:09.74.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
In the 100m race, Mikia Hutchings placed fourth with a time of 12.86 while Hutchings also placed 10th in the 200m event with a 26.94 time. Gabriel Stephens ran alongside Hutchings in the 200m and finished in ninth with a time of 26.88.
In the 800m, Arnold and Conner shined as the duo placed in the top-five with Arnold crossing in 2:17.34 for a third place finish and Conner crossing the finish line in 2:27.43 for a fourth place finish.Â
Mercy Lomuria continued her standout season on Saturday, placing second in both the 1500m and 5000m events with times of 4:51.39 and 17:39.34, respectively. The freshman's 17:39.34 time in the 5000m broke the School Record which was previously held by Sarah McMillion with a time of 17:49.83.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
West Alabama was well represented in the 100m event, with Lawrence Walker and Antonio Young picking up top-10 placements. Walker finished with a 10.97 time, placing second while Young crossed the line in 11.14 for an eighth place finish. Walker also performed in the 200m, recording a time of 22.22 which was good enough for a fourth place finish.
Freshman sensation, Jamarion Walker competed in the 400m and registered a time of 50.03 for a fourth place finish while Michael Harris competed along side him, placing ninth with a 51.25 time.Â
To round out the track events, Jentzen Moore and Jonathan Phillips finished in the top-10 in the 1500m with times of 4:11.33 and 4:19.04, respectively while Sha'Kenye Darden finished seventh in the 800m with a time of 1:56.76.
Dedric Hicks competed in the Shot Put event and set a new school record with a 15.11m throw. Hicks now stands alone in the Shot Put event in school history while Caleb Van finished fourth in the Triple Jump with a 13.67m leap.
West Alabama will be back in action next weekend when the University hosts the inaugural UWA Invitational on Saturday, March 8.
