PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 19 West Alabama women's tennis team and the men's squad continue Gulf South Conference play on Tuesday, March 11, as they travel to face No. 18 (W) & No. 1 (M) West Florida at 2 p.m. at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex before returning home on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. matchup against Delta State.
Women's Matchup: No. 19 West Alabama (4-3, 1-0 GSC) vs. No. 18 West Florida (7-3, 4-0 GSC)
The Tigers enter the contest fresh off a strong start in conference play and will look to carry their momentum against a formidable Argonauts squad. UWA has been consistent in singles play, led by
Valentina Mutilba (5-1) and
Shaira Rivera (5-1), who have been key contributors in the lineup.
Alexa Milliam remains undefeated (4-0), giving the Tigers additional depth. The doubles pairing of Rivera and Mutilba has been dominant, holding a 5-1 record and riding a five-match winning streak.
West Florida, however, presents a significant challenge, boasting a deep roster with multiple players in strong form. Guadalupe Martinez leads the Argos with an 8-2 record in singles, while Alberte Joergensen (6-3) and Aline Midori Da Silva (6-3) have also performed well. In doubles, the duo Martinez and Midori Da Silva have been a force with a 6-2 record. With an overall singles winning percentage of .617 and a doubles mark of .679, the Argonauts have established themselves as a top-tier team in the GSC.
Men's Matchup: West Alabama (2-6, 0-2 GSC) vs. No. 1 West Florida (11-1, 3-1 GSC)
The West Alabama men's tennis team will look to pull off an upset as they travel to face the top-ranked West Florida Argonauts in Gulf South Conference play.
The Tigers are seeking to bounce back after recent conference setbacks, led by
Vilislav Bonev (5-3) and
Federico Iturbe (4-3) in singles action. In doubles, Iturbe and
Jacob Tapia (6-1) have been a standout pair, boasting an impressive .857 winning percentage.
West Florida enters the match in dominant form, winning 83% of their singles matches this season. Sebastian Rondon (9-1) and Sebastian Sotelo (9-2) have been nearly unstoppable, while the duo of Sotelo and Tomas Leston remains undefeated (8-0) in doubles play.
Tuesday's matches will serve as an important test for UWA as they seek to build momentum in GSC play. Both teams will need to bring their best performances to challenge a talented West Florida squad on their home courts.

The doubles team of Andrej Komnenic and Browning (2-4) will look to build chemistry, while the pair of Jacob Lubbe and Tom Rance (2-4) adds depth.
The Statesmen must turn around their recent struggles, especially in conference play, to stay competitive.
The
women's team (0-7, 0-1 GSC) is still searching for its first win. Elena Palioura (4-3) has been the standout performer in singles play, while the doubles duo of Angie Moreno and Lara Torres (3-3) has shown promise. The Lady Statesmen will need strong performances to break through against tough GSC opponents.
First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Pensacola, Fla. The Tigers will take the three hour trip home afterwards and get right back to work on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. matchup with Delta State in Livingston.
