Tennis Set for Busy Weekend at Vaughan Tennis Complex


LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama women's and men's tennis teams are set for an action-packed weekend at Vaughan Tennis Complex, beginning on Saturday, March 22. The men's team (4-7) will face both Ouachita Baptist at 10 a.m. and Marion Military Institute at 3 p.m. while the women's team is set for a matchup against Arkansas Tech on Sunday, March 23 at 10:00 a.m. 

Women's Tennis Preview
Ranked No. 17 in the latest ITA poll, the Tigers have showcased strong performances this season, boasting a 7-3 overall record. Key contributors include Alexa Milliam, who remains undefeated in singles play at 7-0, and Shaira Rivera, holding an impressive 8-1 mark while dominating in the No. 1 position. Valentina Mutilba has also been a key player, compiling a 6-3 singles record.

In doubles action, the number one doubles duo in the country of Rivera and Mutilba leads the way with a 7-2 record, while Milliam and Emiri Takanishi have been stellar with a perfect 6-0 mark. The team's doubles win percentage of .679 demonstrates their strength in pairing play, which will be crucial against Arkansas Tech (4-6).

Men's Tennis Preview 
The UWA men's team enters the weekend looking to build on their 4-7 record. Vilislav Bonev has been a standout performer, compiling a 6-4 record in singles action, while Federico Iturbe has also been consistent at 5-4. Afonso Portugal has been strong in the middle of the lineup, posting a 5-4 record as well.

Doubles play has been a bright spot for the Tigers, with the duo of Iturbe and Jacob Tapia leading the way with an 8-2 record. Eita Ishikawa and Bonev have also been reliable, holding a 4-3 mark. The Tigers will need strong performances across the board as they take on Ouachita Baptist (7-5) in the morning before facing Marion Military Institute (5-6) in the afternoon.

All matches will be held at Vaughan Tennis Complex. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Tigers as they continue their strong season at home.
