Women’s Rodeo Wins Pearl River Rodeo, Men Place Fourth

POPLARVILLE, Miss. - The University of West Alabama Women's Rodeo team picked up their fourth Rodeo win of the season at the Pearl River CC Rodeo while the Men placed fourth.

The West Alabama Women brought another win back home to Livingston, after totaling 330 points this weekend. For the Men, they accumulated 480 points which was good enough for a fourth place placement.

"We didn't have as many make the Championship Round this Rodeo, however most of the ones that did finished at the top, said head coach Daniel Poole. "We are back to competing how we are suppose to."

WOMEN'S RODEO
Joanna Hammett led the way for the Tigers as the senior recorded a team and event-high 175 points in the Goat Tying event. While Hammett dominated the Goat Tying portion of the Rodeo, Sydney Poole did the same in the Barrel Racing. Poole helped lift UWA to their grand total of 330 points, by registering 150 in the Barrel Racing to join Hammett as the only two Tigers to record over 100 points in a single event.

Meah Pinter joined Hammett and Poole in the Championship round as Pinter competed alongside Hammett in the GOAT Tying event. The trio propelled a short handed West Alabama team to a big win at Pearl River to cap off a productive weekend. After their win, West Alabama returns to the No. 1 spot in the Ozark Region.

MEN'S RODEO
Tanner Brown and Clarke Gordon were on their A-game once again for UWA as the duo led the way, by combining for 330 points in the Team Roping event. After putting together a stellar performance in the Team Roping, Brown went to work in the Tie Down Roping. The senior produced an encore performance, totaling 150 points in the event to accumulate 315 individual points in the Rodeo.

Alongside Brown and Gordon, Gavin Lee also stood out for West Alabama. The senior  produced 135 points for the Tigers in the Steer Wrestling event while Grey Wells registered 75 points in the Tie Down Roping to secure a fourth place finish for UWA.

"There's still plenty of things we need to improve on between now and the next one at The University of Tennessee at Martin."

West Alabama will look to carry their momentum into UT Martin's Rodeo which is slated for April 17 in Martin, Tennessee.
