Softball Brings Win Streak Back Home for Series Against Bulldogs

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Softball returns home this weekend as they put their seven-game winning streak on the line for a three-game series against the Union Bulldogs.

The series between the Tigers and the Bulldogs is slated to begin with a double header on Friday with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. The two teams will wrap up the series on Saturday with Game Three slated for 12:00 p.m.

West Alabama (21-12, 10-8 GSC) enters the weekend after extending their win streak with a midweek sweep over Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday. As for Union (7-25, 5-14 GSC), they enter on a six-game losing streak after being on the wrong end of a pair of sweeps at the hands of West Florida and Harding.

33 games into the season, UWA is arguably playing their best softball of the year. In the midst of their seven-game winning streak, the Tigers have been tremendous in clutch situations, winning five of their seven contests by one run. Against Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday, West Alabama didn't find themselves in any pressure situations as their offense exploded for 20 runs, resulting in a lopsided double header sweep over the Hurricanes.

Entering the weekend, the trio of Taylor Clegg, Ann Marie Stanbridge, and Ella Watson continue to thrive at the plate. During the Tigers' seven-game winning streak, Clegg is batting .476 along with eight runs scored. The senior's recent hot streak has catapulted her season average to .367 which now ranks second amongst the team. As for Stanbridge, she brings a .350 batting average into this weekend's play, along with a nine-game hitting streak. During her hitting streak, the First Baseman is batting .519, putting her atop Union's scouting report. For Watson, she just keeps getting better for head coach Stephanie Defeo and the Tigers. After collecting four hits on Wednesday, the freshman is now hitting .316 on the season, a .46 jump from seven games ago.

On the mound, Madison Wright and Eleanor De Block continue to shine, while Megan Roe finds herself ascending. After being four outs away from a Perfect Game against the Hurricanes on Wednesday, Wright is now 10-6 with a 3.07 ERA on the year while De Block brings in a record 8-2 with a 2.69 ERA. As for Roe, she made the first start of her UWA career in Game Two against GSW and went 5.0 inning, only allowing one run. Roe's performance against the Hurricanes should serve as a confidence booster as she and West Alabama heads into their series against the Bulldogs.

Union has struggled in 2025 as they sit towards the bottom of the conference with seven overall wins and five GSC wins this season. The Bulldogs have struggled offensively, particularly in the past six games as they scored a total of five runs in their past six contests. As a team this year, Union is batting .225, but possess two players hitting in the .300s. Senior Morgan Jennings leads the Bulldogs with a .346 batting average and a .400 on-base percentage. Jennings is by far the best contact hitter and speed threat on the team as the Outfielder also leads the team in stolen bases with seven. Alongside Jennings is Brooke Puckett who is batting .333 on the year. Puckett's status for this weekend is up and air as the senior has missed the last four weeks of action.

While the Bulldogs struggle to produce runs, they're last in the GSC in team ERA. Union comes into the weekend, allowing 4.81 runs per game with all four of their active pitchers holding ERAs over 4.00. Emily Claire Felder leads the team with a 4.29 ERA and will most likely get the start in Game One. Sophomore Rylee Moore carries a 4.48 ERA while Riley Vaughn is 2-6 on the year with a 4.88 ERA.

First pitch for Friday's double header against Union is set for 1:00 p.m. while Game Three on Saturday is set for 12:00 p.m.
