LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama men's and women's tennis teams are set to hit the road for a key Gulf South Conference matchup against Christian Brothers on Tuesday, April 1, at 2 p.m.
Men's Tennis (5-8, 1-3 GSC)
The Tigers are looking to bounce back in conference play after a tough stretch, currently holding a 1-3 record in GSC action. The squad is coming off competitive performances, with several key players aiming to build momentum.
In singles play,
Vilislav Bonev (6-5, 2-1 GSC) and
Federico Iturbe (6-4, 0-3 GSC) have been bright spots for West Alabama. Bonev has excelled at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, while Iturbe has won two straight matches.
Jacob Tapia (5-6, 1-1 GSC) is also coming off back-to-back victories and will look to continue his strong form.
Doubles play has been a strength for UWA, with Iturbe and Tapia (9-3, 2-1 GSC) leading the way. The duo has won seven of their last ten matches and will be pivotal in securing the doubles point.
Eita Ishikawa and Bonev (4-3, 2-1 GSC) have also been a consistent pair for the Tigers.
#16 Women's Tennis (8-4, 3-0 GSC)
Ranked No. 16 in the nation, the UWA women's team has been dominant in conference play with a perfect 3-0 record. They aim to extend their winning streak and solidify their standing in the GSC.
Singles standout
Alexa Milliam (9-0, 2-0 GSC) remains undefeated this season and will look to continue her dominant run.
Shaira Rivera (9-2, 2-0 GSC) has been a force at the top singles spot, while
Greta Zawels (7-3, 2-0 GSC) has won her last four matches, adding depth to the lineup.
In doubles, the duo of Milliam and
Emiri Takanishi (8-0, 2-0 GSC) has been flawless, holding an unblemished record. Rivera and
Valentina Mutilba (8-2, 1-1 GSC) have also been strong in the No. 1 doubles slot, winning three straight matches.
